The Hangout

I swear, as soon as that bell rang, I shot out of my seat and ran to my locker.
The thought of actually spending time with Camila was a dream come true to me.

When in eighth grade last year, I finally thought I could move on from her because we'd be in different schools.
Being a straight A's student my entire life, I've always wanted to go to some private high school in Miami and I thought that my scholarships would help my parents pay for it.

Then, my dad lost his job and I was stuck going to Carrollton. Like, great. Another four years of a painful crush on a girl who doesn't even know I exist. Then everything changed....She actually talked to me! Like, she actually wanted to talk to me and it wasn't just because we were forced to be partners...! Or at least it felt like that. I don't know, maybe I'm letting my fantasies get the best of me.

"Hey Lo," Mani walked up to my locker. "God, you're eager to get a piece of Camila. You ran outta there faster than I could've said your name."

"Ugh, screw you, Mani," I said rolling my eyes.

Inside, we both knew that what Mani said was way past the truth. Words can't even begin to describe how exited and nervous I was. I don't know what to wear, what to say, how to act.

Ugh...Mani's right...it's not like I'm proposing to her. I'm just hanging out with her like I hang out with Mani....right? Yeah, I shouldn't be nervous...just chill Lauren...just chill...

After dropping Mani to her house, I went home showered and threw on my 1975 t-shirt, jeans, and a plaid shirt around my waist.

I had about half an hour until I had to pick up Camila so I started an episode of Friends. Okay, I swear, that was the longest episode from Friends ever.

As soon as it was over I ran to my car and sped down to Camila's house. When I got to her house and pulled up to her driveway, I couldn't stop my jaw from dropping—she had a freaking mansion!

I got out of the car and walked really slowly, taking in the beauty of her house. It had a fountain in the front and was surrounded by flowers. I stopped at her door almost to afraid to knock. When I did, I was greeted by her almost immediately.

"Hey Lauren," she said smiling in a way that made my heart flutter.

"Hey Camila," I said still in awe. "Man your house is...well....amazing."

She closed the door behind her and said "Oh, thanks...I mean it's big. To be honest, I haven't seen all of the rooms in here, and I've been living here forever." A slight chuckle escaped her lips causing me to grin in response.

"So, you ready to go?"

"Yeah, let's go," she said just as she linked her arm in mine causing me to smile.

"This way then," I lead her to the car and opened the door for her.

"Oh, how chivalrous...you're nicer than my ex," Camila laughed.

"Your ex?" I thought for a second, "Oh....Do you mean Austin?"

"Yeah, the jerk who couldn't have a relationship for more than two weeks," she said, rolling her eyes.

"Hey, if he didn't work out, then I guess I can be your Prince Charming" she immediately smiled.

"Okay Prince, let's go to your castle," she laughed in an infectious way that made me laugh and filled my stomach with butterflies.

"Sure thing, princess" I said as I got back onto the rode to my house.

She a wore a pencil skirt with a blouse and it fit her perfectly in all the right places and I caught myself looking at her on multiple occasions.

"So, any requests?" I asked as I attached my phone to the car by my AUX chord.

"Anything by Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, or Taylor Swift."

"Well, is 'Skyscraper' okay?"

"Actually...yeah. That's one of my favorite songs," she said, smiling.

"Great. Then 'Skyscraper' it is," I smiled back.

After a few songs, Camila asked "So, who's your favorite singer and band?"

"I'm in love with Lana Del Ray and i think the T-shirt gives away my other obsession," I laughed.

"Oh, I should've guessed. I got that vibe from you...that vibe of liking down-to-earth singers."

"Really? How?"

"Well you're just kinda chill but then you're smart...like the way you talked about your favorite book. You had a reason and words just kinda flow. I actually find that as an admirable quality."

"Aww, thanks Camz" I blushed at the compliments and turned more red when I realized I let that nickname slip.

"Camz?"

"Sorry, it just slipped," I turned a darker shade of red.

"No, I like it. No one really calls me that...they usually call me Mila....But Camz sounds way better actually," she smiled.

"Well, here we are," I said as I opened the door to my house.

"Nice house."

"It's not as nice as yours...but it's home."

"No, I like it," she smiled and it got rid of all of my emotions.

"So, you want anything to drink? Water, coke, shots?"

"Shots!?" she looked kind of disgusted.

I laughed "Don't worry, I'm just messing with you. We don't have coke."

I laughed harder as I grabbed two cans of coke and handed one to her.

"So, you wanna go to my room?"

"Sure."

"Hey Lauren...?"

"Yeah Camz?" she looked kinda nervous and it worried me.

"Um.....why did you want to hang out with me? I mean, not that I don't like it but was it just....you know...to be popular...?"

"Of course not!" I was relieved and hurt at this question. I didn't want her to think I was faking. I wanted her to know that I really liked her...but I only just started talking to her.

I mean, who confesses their "undying love" to someone they just met? I moved closer to her on the bed and played with her fingers in my hand.

"Look...I could care less if everyone knew who I was. To be honest, I'd hate that. I HATE attention. But please trust me when I say that I want to hang out with you because you're so smart, kind, loving, and talented. Not to mention you're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." she smiled slightly at my words, so I returned the gesture and continued.

"I've known you since forever and saw all of that in you...I just never got to experience it first hand. Now that I got the chance, I want to take it because I felt like I'd never get another one."

I rubbed the palm of her hand with my thumb and smiled helplessly, looking deep into her chocolate eyes.

"Wow, even a real Prince couldn't be so Charming." she winked and we laughed together.

"Anything for you, Princess."
