"Well, she passed out quick." Alanna sighed. She shrugged, picking up the die that were sitting on the floor. "Shit, man, this fifth is almost gone already."
Brick nodded. "You wanted to play this game."
"Can I stay here?" Josh looked at Alanna cunningly, running his finger along her shoulder. I felt a pang of jealousy roll through my stomach, but I tried not to let it show on my face. "If I go home, my parents will kill me." He put his face right next to hers.
"Get off me, and you can." She shoved him backward and he fell to the floor pretty quickly. "How would Bethany feel if she knew that her shitfaced boyfriend was trying to hook up with her best friend? While she was sleeping on the bed behind them?"
Josh shrugged. "I don't want to hook up with you."
"Sure don't make it seem like it isn't a goal." Brick rolled his eyes and helped Alanna pick up the pieces of Tenzi.
"You can all stay. There are two guest bedrooms. Josh, take your girlfriend into one of them. Just don't do anything that will make Brick throw you out a second story window, okay?" She yawned and stretched. "Lewis and Brick, you take the one with two beds."
We all nodded. The stairs were old and rickety as the four of us headed up them. We knew Alanna's house pretty well, seeing as how we spent mostly every other weekend here, and as we reached the climax of the steps, I hung a left into the bedroom layed out for Brick and I. I took the bed on the far left, the smaller one of course, as Brick layed down instantly and looked at me.
"So, you still crushing on Alanna?"
"What's it to you?" I snap back, turning away from him as I blush at her name.
"Oh, I don't know. It's not like I'm her best friend or anything, not like I could throw in a good name for anyone I know to her. Oh wait, I am, and I can. So Lewis, answer my question. Yes? Or no?"
I turn to him and say in a slightly cowardly voice. "Yes I am Brick, I know you won't help me out, so don't even try it."
"Am I hearing hostility here Louie? You know I just want a little friendly conversation, and with that attitude, I feel threatened. You know how I act when I'm threatened, or do you just want to find out?"
"Brick... You're drunk so, please, rethink your actions..." I stumble out, as being backed into a corner by the behemoth.
I walk backwards, and he doesn't halt his advance. I scream out, hoping that someone is still awake, and will possibly talk some sense into the brute. I hear running foot steps from down the hall, the door opens and Alanna rushes in, standing between us.
"Brick, what the hell are you thinking! Lewis is your friend, why would you try and hurt him?"
"Lanna, I.. I just..." He stumbled, searching for his words.
"Exactly, Lewis, come on, you're sleeping in my room now, but on the floor, no way are you actually going to sleep with me."
I grab a blanket and pillow, following her, as Brick hangs his head and lays down on the bed. Alanna opens the door to her room and we walk in, I set my stuff on the floor and lay down. Alanna sits upright on the bed and I can tell something is bothering her.
"Hey, wanna talk?" I ask as I go and sit next to her.
"Uhm... Sure, why not." She replied hesitantly.
"What's bothering you, and don't do the typical girl thing and say nothing, I can tell it's something." I felt all those words come out before I could even think to stop myself.
"Well then, I suppose I should tell you, it's Brick. You see, he's been acting strange around me lately, especially with you around, and, I just don't understand it."
"Well, I do, Alanna... I..." I feel my throat go dry, and then I can't speak, I lay on the bed and bury my head in the pillow on the right.
"What Lewis, you what?"
"I... I can't say, it would ruin everything, can you please respect that? Please,,,"
"Of course Lewis, why don't you sleep in the bed, I just don't feel right making you sleep on the floor, especially after almost getting punched in the face by Brick,"
I cover up, and Alanna lays down on top of the blankets, she had changed fast, in a night robe, but it looked more like a bath robe, slightly fuzzy, and I couldn't tell of anything under it. She looked at me and said something shocking, but of course, it could've been the alcohol, but either way, I count it as a victory. She leaned close to me, and said.
"Lewis, I love you." then she wrapped her arm around me, and kissed my forehead.
She stood up, turned around and took off her night robe, revealing a tank top and her underwear, and layed next to me. I can say, personally, it was one hell of a night.
