1) Courage - Courage is about standing up for what you believe is right, even in a life-or-death situation. One should be happy with their life, and defend their identity until death. As the Havamal says about boldness:

Silent and attentive- and battle bold
should a chieftain's son be.
A man should be glad and happy, until defeated by death.

This is expressed further in the Fafnismal:

Ever the fearless, but never the fearful
fares the better in a fight;
'tis better to be glad than in gloomy mood
whether all is fair or foul.
