A warm body with fur wiggles next to me. I lazily raise my head to see what caused the disturbance. My eyes resting on an Australian shepherded pup, a smile dancing on my lips as I pet my dog Sadie.
"Common girl, I have to get ready for school." I mutter, pushing the protesting pup off my small bed. The first thing I did was grab my glasses off the nightstand, hating the feeling of not being able to see.
Slowly after, I untangle myself from my sheets and stand up. Sadie ran gleefully out my door, and waddling down the stairs where my mom would feed her. Her small tail waving in the air as she made her exit.
"Alice! What's taking you so long! You only have 45 minutes left to get ready!" I smile quietly to myself. Mom always did worry over nothing.
I undress and pull on my usual ensemble for the first day of school. I never really was a fashion guru or did I care what they thought, but I never looked like a slob either.
Looking down at myself I looked over the chosen outfit to make sure it was 'appropriate'. It was a loose shirt with my favorite quote at the moment; it reads "Yeah I have friends... On the internet.", and of course some trusty leggings to go along with it.
I run down the hall to a small bathroom and force the brush through my tangled black hair, wincing ever so slightly at the pain. Hearing my mother yell my name again, I reach for my tooth brush and go once over my teeth.
Almost out of breath from running around, I grab my usual tennis shoes. I hobble out of my room as I put on my shoes, struggling to get downstairs and almost falling several times. Multitasking was clearly not my thing.
"Nice of you to join us Alice. That's a new record by the way, 15 minutes." My brother Kasper says through a mouthful of cereal, his eyes shining with amusement.
I roll my eyes and take a seat next to him, looking up as our mother speaks to both of us.
"Now, Kasper. I want you to watch over your little sister." I groan out loud, earning attention from my father who was sitting quietly across from my brother reading his newspaper.
"Something wrong with that Alice?" My groan is cut short at the sound of his voice. I shake my head in a silent response. That seems to be enough to make him happy, since he returns to his paper soon after.
"You're not really going to do that Kasp?" I mutter to him, not even trying to hide my desperate tone.
The last thing I need is my big brother following me around. Not that I was worried of what others thought, I only had like 3 friends and I spent most of my time reading anyways. Just the thought of being treated like a little kid drove me into insanity; not literally of course.
"Of course not, don't worry." I sigh in relief, stuffing a spoonful of cereal in my mouth before my mom can ask the question I've been dreading all summer.
"Now, Alice." She begins, but before she can get out another sentence I'm already at the door with my bag slung over my shoulder.
"Bye! Love you!" I call over my shoulder, opening the door and darting outside. Panicking as I heard someone follow me outside. I slowly turn around, ready to face my mother. I sight outloud in relief as I realize it's Kasper.
"I'm driving you. You're not taking the bus." I can't help but laugh, since that's exactly what I was thinking as I barged out of the house.
"Thank you." I say in a sing song voice.
A frown taking over my features as my brother's friend Dylan walks over to us and greets my brother with a friendly handshake, and me with an uninterested glance.
Awkwardly, I rock on the balls of my feet; waiting for my brother to introduce me or for Dylan to say something. Neither move to acknowledge me.
"Get in the back." My brother finally says, still paying no mind to my existence.
Huffing, I climb reluctantly in the back and take out my book which was safely tucked away in my bag. Feeling at home as it rested in my hands. I can't believe he's making me sit in the back! I try to hide my annoyance, but based off of Kasper's smile, it's obvious I'm not doing a very good job.
(Sorry it's so short and a little immature. I've never written in this perspective. I plan on slowly building up this story and making it more interesting ^-^)
