A tumbleweed brushed against the outskirts of the thunderpath. The trees rustled as dark clouds moved into the horizon of the forest. Four cats precautioned for the upcoming storm.

"Jayfeather, what if my kits come during the storm? What if those Badgers decide to attack during the storm?" A queen questioned with a worried face.

"It'll be fine. Nothing should happen, Glaciertail." Jayfeather replied.

Cold droplets of water started to hit their muzzles, giving them chills down their body. Quickly, the rest of the clan started to get in their newly made storm shelter- Atop the fallen tree of the hill. Lightning beamed down from the sky destroying a den. The rain had started to become fierce as it hit the ground with a loud rumble.

"Gah!" A kit screamed. "My pelt is wet!"

Suddenly, water gushed up to the kit's ankles which had swept her off her paws. The mud slowly drew her into the overflowing river as she cried for help. Her paws violently waved trying to grab onto roots or tree limbs. Bramblestar, the leader of Thunderclan, had jumped out of the shelter to grab the kit's scruff. Lightning dashed down to Bramblestar and the kit's pelt, jolting them with hundreds of volts of electricity. Both of them fell cold. One of the elders had screamed loudly, leading them all to panic. The mud finally had submerged them into the river that would lead them to the sun-drown place.

Glaciertail's stomach started to bulge and bring painful aches.

The kits were coming.

"Help me!" She shrieked.

Jayfeather was quickly at her side leading her to safety. The water started to leak into the emergency dens. A den heavy with three apprentices tipped over, which fell into the wake of the river.

"Longkit, Raggedkit and Stormkit." The queen said weakly. As she grabbed the newly born kit's by their scruffs, water started to leak into the den. She let Jayfeather hold them and treat them while she shoveled the water out of the den. More and more water gushed into the den which finally made her slip and fall out. She tumbled off the fallen tree then into the river. The three kits were now motherless.

Chapter One

Dim beams of light leaked into the den as three kits awoke. The dew had filtered in their den, making the atmosphere moist.

"Wake up Raggedkit!" A small kit squeaked.

Two more kits awoke from the hard moss and yawned.

"I'm awake.." Longkit mumbled.

"He was talking to me, Longkit!" Raggedkit hissed.

"Really, we're two moons old! We can leave the den!" Stormkit exclaimed.

"Sounds scary!" Longkit mentioned.

"Ha ha! Longkit is a scaredy-cat!" Raggedkit laughed.

Longkit pushed Raggedkit to the side angrily.

The three kits trotted outside the den. Jayfeather jumped to his feet as he saw them walk outside, then hesitated.

"Seems like you've found your way out of the den, eh?" Jayfeather questioned.

"Yeah! We're gonna fight like warriors!" Stormkit jumped up and down.

All three continued on to the clearing where they would play. Both Stormkit and Raggedkit started to pounce on each other. Longkit sat in the outskirts of the clover patch.

"Can I play?" Longkit asked.

"No!" Stormkit screeched. "In the den you're bad at playing this game."

Squirrelstar brushed against a bramble and sat beside Longkit.

"Something troubling you, Longkit?" Squirrelstar asked. His heart started to race because the leader of Thunderclan chose to talk to him.

"Uh.. No, I'm good." He stuttered. He wanted to walk away, but he didn't want to be rude to his leader. Squirrelstar smiled, and touched his muzzle to his shoulder. Squirrelstar walked away.

Longkit continued to spectate his brother and sister play.

"I'm gonna get you!" Stormkit squealed.

"I'm from Shadowclan!" Raggedkit yelled playfully. "I'll cut you till' you bleed!" Both Raggedkit and Stormkit laughed excitedly.

Longkit finally decided to join their game. He stepped into the sandy hollow, but was quickly kicked out onto the outskirts.

"Ow!" Longkit moaned

"You're too weak to play with us!" Stormkit said. "You'd hurt even when we're playing! How would you survive in a real battle..?"

Longkit's littermates both giggled and continued playing. He started to frown, but he heard rustling in the undergrowth to the right. Longkit quickly padded off in curiosity. Longkit sniffed the soil and found an unfamiliar scent. Is there a fox!? Longkit thought. He twisted his head back to make sure no one was following, then he trotted off to follow the scent.

Longkit went into a crouching position when the scent got thicker and less stale. Right in front of his muzzle was a fox den, with sleeping cubs. His eyes widened, and he ran off.

"Squirrelstar!" He screamed. "Squirrelstar!" He has caught the attention of his brothers heading to the fresh-kill pile, they both followed Longkit.

"Squirrelstar..." He gasped for breath.

"What is it, Longkit?" She asked.

"Fox!" He screamed. Both his brothers gave him an unamused face as Longkit told Squirrelstar where it was.

"You can't find a fox! You're too weak to go out of the camp!" Raggedkit said.

"But... I found a fox den! It has fox cubs in it! And, and there was a male fox too! He swiped his claws at me! And I dodged it! I even bit it's neck!" Longkit eyes glittered in sadness and despair.

"In your dreams." Stormkit laughed and pushed him into the fresh-kill pile, which made prey fly everywhere. The elders peeked out of their den and glared at them.

"I didn't do it, I swear!" He squealed.

"What are you doing right here then?" One elder questioned. "Clean that up! And bring Flowertail a mouse, will ya?"

Longkit groaned as he started to pick up the pieces of prey. His ears perked up when he heard screams from others in the distance.
