Nevaeh was at her best friend's funeral. Declan had only been 18 when he died at the hands of The Greffers. They only put The Greffers in half of the population, and only triggered that implant in 1 out of the 5 people that got it, and each month in every country one person was killed. Out of half of the population and the 1 in 5 people it could have been, it had to have been Declan that month.Doctors had been implanting The Greffers into new borns brains for 19 years, when Greffers were implanted they stayed dormant until they were triggered, and when The Greffer in your brain was triggered you died instantly. She used to tell Declan everything but now she would never talk to him again. She had no one, and to make it the cherry on top of the cake her dad had been the one to invent The Greffers. He was the one that made The Greffer that had killed Declan and so many others. Her dad had invented The Greffers to solve the world's over population in 2077- 19 years ago -one year before she was born. That one year could mean she was implanted with The Greffer, that one year could mean that she could die this month. Nevaeh couldn't deny that The Greffer had been a brilliant solution to overpopulation on her dad's part, but I didn't mean she didn't think it wasn't inhumane.Nevaeh turned away from the casket that held her dead friend. She couldn't stand to look at Declan anymore. She needed to get out of here. Nevaeh said goodbye to Declan's family and left. She couldn't help but to blame her dad for this. She couldn't help blaming her dad for all the deaths in India at the end of every month since 2077, heck she couldn't help blaming him for the end of the month deaths of people in the world since 2077. One of the biggest problems of having her dad be the inventor and the only person that actually makes The Greffers meant constant security. Nevaeh was always surrounded by bodyguards. She could have just some robotic bodyguards, but her dad believed actual people were better. Nevaeh disagreed with this but there was no swaying her dad once he made up his mind.
As Nevaeh got into her car her driver Ivan started the car and started driving away from her friend's funeral. Ivan glanced at her in the rearview mirror "Are you okay Nevaeh?" he asked, Nevaeh just glanced up and shook her head no. How could she be okay when her best friend died because of her dad's invention? How could she be okay knowing that there would be even more blood on her dad's hands by the end of this month? How could she be okay knowing about all the blood that he had already spilt?
Nevaeh hadn't thought about this until now. Her dad was a murder, even if it was for the greater good of the planet, her dad was still a murder. Nevaeh paled at the thought. She couldn't think about this anymore. Her dad may be a killer but he was still her Dad, and it didn't help that he was one of the most known men on Earth, if people went against him let's just say things didn't end well for those people.
Ivan pulled into the driveway of her house and parked the car. He then came around and opened the door for her, Nevaeh got out of the car and thanked Ivan for the ride and walked into her home. She walked inside and went straight upstairs to her room, she didn't want to talk to her parents about the funeral right now; she wasn't ready yet. She wasn't ready to face her dad. When Nevaeh finally got to her room she flopped down on her bed and stared at the ceiling. She almost reached for her phone to call Declan to talk to him about how she was sleeping before realizing that she couldn't talk to him anymore. She could never talk to him, period. Nevaeh cried until she fell asleep that night.
------------------------------
Nevaeh woke up the next morning to a knocking on her door. "Come in" she said, still half asleep. Her mom walked in to her surprise, her mom usually didn't bother her.
"Are you okay Nevaeh?" her mom asked.
"What do you think mom?" she asked. In response her mom came over and hugged her. Nevaeh was surprised to say the least, her mom never did things like that. Her mom and dad were always absorbed in their work and never really had time for her, but she was used to that, and she had Verna (one of the maids that worked for her family) and Ivan to keep her company.
When her mom pulled away she gave Nevaeh a pitying look and got up to leave, "If you ever need to talk to someone always know I'm here for you Neva" She said before walking out of her room and closing the door quietly behind her.
Nevaeh looked at the time and saw it was 10:30 she got out of bed and went to her closet to get dressed, after she was dressed she brushed out her hair and went downstairs. When she got downstairs she was greeted by Verna "Good morning sweetie, how are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm okay Verna, I just miss Declan" Nevaeh replied. Verna pulled Nevaeh into a tight hug. When Verna released Nevaeh she held her at arm's length and looked into her eyes.
"Nevaeh don't bottle this up. If you need someone to talk to you know I'm here." She said and turned and walked away.
Nevaeh walked into the kitchen and turned on the Holo-TV and started making her breakfast. She was pouring the milk into her cereal when the news story came on. "There was a huge protest against The Greffer today in town square where Mr. Vano was reported to be going through to get to his office at town hall today. Protesters had tried to get into Mr.Vano's car, but before they could his driver sped down the rest of the way to Town Hall. Some people were injured because of how Mr. Vano's driver reacted, but it wasn't anything a little med spary couldn't fix. This is Dante come from you live at IBC News." The reporter finished. Nevaeh was done making her cereal by the time the reporter was done talking and had started talking about some stupid news story she didn't care about, but that didn't matter now Nevaeh had realized how she could try to stop the implantations of the Greffer; protesting. Her father would be furious, his own daughter protesting against his own invention. She didn't care, she was doing this for Declan, and she wouldn't stop doing it until The Greffers were outlawed.
