Sleeping was surprisingly easy on the last night I could guarantee my own safety: I didn't have any nightmares, nor dreams, and I wasn't kept up... But that just made the day come all the sooner.
"All right! Rise and shine! Today's the day, we can't be late!" Haymitch's voice booms down the hallway and through the thin wooden doors of our rooms.
I rolled out of bed, well rested, but grouchy none-the-less. "All right, all right, Effie mark 2!"
After that remark I hear a few giggles from down the halls and a well placed groan from the receiver himself. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all know Little Miss Tease is good at her job but that doesn't mean you have to encourage her! Now get up, get dressed and GET OUT HERE!"
A chorus of groans rises from the rooms around me, everyone acting like school children on a Monday morning. Just the thought of that lights up my face: this might be the last day we are all living, but we are still acting like typical teenagers.--------------–--------------------------------
"- so, no matter what, just stay brave, stay strong, and... Umm..." Haymitch's pep talk had been pretty good up until now, which - according to Mum and Dad - is quite a rarity.
"Stay alive?" Katniss supplies, smiling at the old shared joke.
Haymitch nods, smiling too, "Yeah, stay alive."
And with that, we were all guided onto the hovercraft. My parents didn't say goodbye, they just smiled and waved as I turned my back on them for what could be the last time, expecting - hoping - that I would come home to them.
Sorry for the short chapter after so long, but I'll try and write another one tonight to make up for it. :)
