One thing to consider while sketching is the contrast between a straight line and a curved line. The arrangement and balance of these two lines can be very appealing to the viewer and adds visual interest. When I draw I try to discover one strong straight line that serves as an anchor for the drawing. Once that line is discovered I make sure all other lines support it and a rhythm is established in the piece.
