Openning the door was easy. Getting the courage to do so, wasn't as easy though. I hadn't fully thought about this. I just knew I had to change things, at least to the way they used to be.

Everyone in the room stared at me with no emotion and a motive to kill. As if all the life had been sucked out of everyone, as if to say they had no soul or heart and if I made a wrong move they would kill me in an instant. This usually wouldn't give me a problem. I had gone through that too many times in the last few days, but even the one person who I loved had forgotten who he really was and was ready to kill me the first chance he got and I was afraid I would defend myself.

2 months back

As I walked home from school I heard them. The voices telling me bizarre things, giving me the urge to run, but even if I did where would I go. I still had about a mile left to get home so it wasn't like I could hide from them. I could get on a bus, but they were rare nowadays. The gas shortage took that from us when I was around 12. No one saw it comming. I remember my mother driving me to so many places, I thought nothing of it, that is until there was no more cars around. Only the rich had them, we were stuck with bicycles and scooters.

I decided to call my best friend, thinking maybe then the voices would go away. He was another me, people would point out. A quirky and loud personality. His green eyes matched mine as well, I guess you could say we were like siblings.

"Heyy!" he yelled in my ear. Always and I mean always a good way to greet your best friend. "Heyy!" I yelled back. As we began to have a conversation more and more, the voices began to get gradually softer until I couldn't hear a thing. By the time I got home it was dark. So, I decided to hang up on him and call him the next morning to see if we could hang out or do something since it was a Saturday. My parents weren't home yet once I arrived home. I rarely got to see them anymore since it took so long to get anywhere in the scooters and they would get home around 11pm. I did my Algebra II homework and did a little reading since I am a bit of a nerd. Once I showered and put on my pajamas I allowed myself to fall on my bed in exhaustion.

The sky was filled with beautiful stars that shined like no other. I felt at peace with no interruptions and a quiet field of grass to tickle the back of my neck and ears. Dark green seemed to lye in every direction you turned being sparkled up with the reflection from the thousands of stars that watched over the earth.

It wasn't until a few minutes of laying in peace, that I actually realized I was outside in the middle of the night. I began to freak out and shot up in a jolt to my feet, trying to figure out how I got here The field of grass now showed trees that weren't there previously. Before I knew it, I was standing in the middle of a dense forest with the brightness of the stars disappearing from the thickness of the trees covering them.

I began to walk carefully through the forest, avoiding the limbs that hung low from the tree. After a while I had the feeling someone was following me. I kept turning around, but when I did no one was there. That was until I heard a gun shot. I turned as quickly as I could and saw my Best friend lying on the floor with blood oozing out of his chest. I ran towards him, but he kept getting farther and farther away from me until I wasn't able to see him any longer and was left in the darkness of the forest.

"Ummm hello?" I wake up asking through the phone, wondering why anyone would call me at 6am on a Saturday. "Whats up Jas, want to hang out later at around ten. I'm free all day" Louis said excitedly with a little grin heard through the phone. "Okay, I'll be ready then" I said with a tired yawn. I figured I might as well get up and get ready in order to go eat.
