The fence passed the car window by, almost in a blur, as the car zoomed through the country. Marci my caseworker was in the front driving, while I sat in the back. "You know I read up on your uncle, he owns a horse ranch along with cows, geese, and goats." she droned on as I tried to block her talking out. Marci was an old southern bell with class, she acted as if the world was unicorns and fucking rainbows when it wasn't, she worked with troubled youth everyday, you'd think she'd get it through her giant red curly haired head.
"You do realize Marci we're going to be seeing each other in about a month, so why don't you stop with the pleasantries and drive." I replied dryly, only looking up for a while did I notice the hurt in her eyes from the rear view mirror, huffing I took my earbuds and plugged in my music letting that drown out the things around me. My name's Dandelion Walker and I am alone, my mother or should I said my incubator abused me beyond repair and sent me off to my Aunt Clara's house, and so on and so forth my corrupted childhood, till my new mysterious Uncle Elric decided to take me in, he's supposedly a ranch owner with his daughter Fiona, my mother never talked about the family, so all of these relatives just keep coming out of the wood work of the family.
"We're here Dandi," I heard Marci call when the car lurched forward over a huge bump, but when the car did this, I didn't expect for Marci to push the break quickly and screech to a halt. I was thrown forward into the headrest of the front seat and groaned at my now growing headache.
Marci rolled down her window and hollered out "Why in god's name are you in the middle of the street?!" she yelled out at the figure in the road, I peered between the seats to see a younger man about 6 feet tall in the middle of the road, his stature was slouched with a shovel in one hand and a water bottle in his other, his face covered in dirt to the point I couldn't point out particular features.
"Why ya hollering, you are on the McCormic property and you are at least from what I can tell; not a McCormic, so I will tell you this, this isn't no street, so I can walk anywhere I please. If I were you i'd turn your little car around and go find another person to sell your cosmetic's to." then he spit into the dirt and turned around to go back into the tall grass.
Marci sat there for a second before huffing and rolling up her window and clenching her manicured fist on the wheel "Who is he to say that to me, I am a well respected southern lady." she growled out and started up the car once again, she drove over where the man had stood and kept going into a huge driveway.
Looking at the house, it didn't even seem that we were in the middle of nowhere, but there was a cabin and the driveway was a circle going around, there was also a porch that stretched around the whole cabin. On the porch sat a man, this one was way older telling from his mustache and white hair flowing to his shoulders. He wore a cowboy hat and a bandanna around his neck. At the moment he was cutting an apple with a knife and was looking toward Marci's now parked car.
Marci got out revealing her very pink tailored suit, pumps to match. Waddling over to my door she opened it up and told me to get out which I did reluctantly feeling my bones crack from the long drive.
"Hello there!" Marci yelled as I walked to the trunk to get my duffel bag. God she was a southern bumpkin born and raised, and the guy looked as if he hid bodies in the back of the house.
"Evening ma'am." He spit on the ground and stood up tipping his hat toward Marci then to me "You must be the young lady I spoke to on the phone." he said rather charmingly, if you looked at Marci though she seemed to melt under the flattery and looked over at me winking "Yes I am, Marci Jackson, and you must be Mr. McCormic I presume?"
"No pleasantries here ma'am, just Elric is fine by me." he reached out taking one her fresh manicured hands in his and kissed the top. She of course was disgusted by the filth of his hands but still swooned over the southern charm of this man.
