Karia's POV
I wasn't exactly thrilled.
An hour. We had an HOUR to prepare for probably to most important battle in our training.
And my teammates wanted to find something to eat.
"Look, Kari, we need our strength to do well, huh? We can't be focusing on how hungry we are," Akana said, being the most trained in our little team, she spoke with her usual air of purpose. I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Fine. But you're paying," I said, as we came to the booth. Suddenly, I felt a chill down my spine as instinct told me to run.
"Go! Come on Reid!" a girl cheered, as I noticed what was on top of her head. Wolf ears. I froze in my tracks.
"What's up?" Vynx asked me, moving in front of me. I was rigid.
"I-um-w-wolf..." I stuttered, taking a step back.
As I spit out the last word the girl slowly looked up. Once noticing my ears, she hid behind her hair and avoided my gaze.
Vynx followed my eyes, "Hey, hey it's okay," he said, coaching me into a seat. I swallowed and forced on a smile.
"So! What's our strategy?" I asked as I sat down, my body still rigid, but I forced a bit of looseness into my smile.
In my peripheral vision, I was able to see the girl. She leaned down and whispered to a boy next to her, who was having a very intense arm-wrestling contest, and appeared to be loosing.
I was barely able to hear her, but I could clearly hear the words, 'go', and 'now'. I immediately felt horrible.
Maybe she heard me? The first thing I wanted to say was, 'I'm not racist I swear!' but that wouldn't help my case.
I stood, "Hey," I said to the girl, and scratched the back of my neck, "I'm, uh, sorry, I didn't mean to offend you in any way, and I'm terribly sorry," I bowed.
"It's... it's fine. I'm Silver." She held out a hand slightly hesitantly.
I instinctively flinched, and glanced back at Vynx. He gave me a small reassuring smile and I took her hand and shook it firmly, "Karia Schwarz! Pleasure to meet you," I donned a large smile.
"Nice to meet you too... I... uh... like your ears..." she said, trying to keep the conversation going.
I instantly took it in a questionable way, 'What's that supposed to mean?' I almost said, but instead I swallowed and spoke confidently, "Likewise," I gave a soft laugh, "So, you new here? I don't believe I've seen you before."
"Yeah, I came a little late, and I had a redo-initiation," she replied.
I smiled at her, "I see. Very interesting! What's your team, if you don't mind my asking?"
"Team STRM," she whispered.
I blinked and clapped, "Oooh! Does that mean you're leader?"
She nodded, "Yeah," she replied shortly.
"Ah." I glanced sideways to see my team shoving noodles down their throats. Wow. I looked back to see Silver watching Reid. She noticed as I followed her gaze, and said quietly to me, "Honestly, I think Reid would have been a better leader."
"Why's that?"
"I... didn't go to combat school. The only reason I was accepted to Beacon was because of my... history."
I cocked my head to the side, "Care to elaborate?"
"To put it short, I lived with wolves. A little while after I joined the pack... they were all killed. I had to fend for myself for a while, especially because my pack had only lived in forests full of Grimm."
I raised an eyebrow, "Oh? That sounds... traumatic," I said. I would reveal that I was responsible for at least a dozen deaths of innocent people but... something told me that I would just kill the mood. Plus, my past is my past. I'm not very... proud, to say the least, "I was trained in Atlas for a little while, but I've been everywhere. Where are you from?"
"Mistral. You probably could have guessed that, though." She flashed me a quick smile. I returned it, just before Reid had walked up to Silver and said, "I lost. Don't you dare tell anyone." He looked disappointed. Silver replied with, "I'm not the snitch you should be worried about." She glanced at the red haired boy, gleaming with pride whilst talking with a black haired girl.
"Are those your teammates?" I asked, answering my own question before she replied.
"Oh, yeah. That's Trae," she said pointing at the red haired boy, "and that's Midnight." She finished, nodding at the girl.
"Oh," I said, before turning to my own teammates, who had finished their meals and were looking at me, "You know you can just come over and NOT stalk me, right?" I said to them.
They stood up, and I turned back to Silver, "That's Hector, our team's leader, then Akana, and then Vynx! Together we are TEAM HAVK!" I said, striking a dramatic pose. Akana facepalmed, while the others laughed nervously, "Team, this is Silver."
Silver waved awkwardly.
"Pleasure to meet you," Akana said, extending a hand, a small smile on her lips.
"Don't take her hand," I whispered to Silver, "She'll crush you."
"Got it." She flashed a smile as if ready for a challenge, taking Akana's outstretched hand anyways. I could see Akana tighten her grip, and Silver tightening her own. Akana grinned, "You have a firm grip." She turned to me, "I like her." I rolled my eyes at her comment.
Vynx looked at Silver, "You know," he said to her, leaning in with a small wink, "You're a cutie."
I narrowed my eyes and elbowed him in the side, "Behave yourself!"
Silver narrowed her eyes as well, and gave a small grin, "You aren't so bad yourself," she said, before sweeping her foot underneath his legs, causing him to fall onto his butt.
"Okay! Okay! Got it! Don't mess with the cutie! Noted!" He said, standing up and brushing himself off.
Hector rolled his eyes, "I apologize for my comrades. They know not how they act," he bowed to Silver, "It's a pleasure to meet you, m'lady."
I rolled my eyes, and Vynx laughed, "Look at you and your formalities!" Vynx said, "Girls like gentlemen, I know. Smooth move, Hec."
Hector glared at him, and I stepped between them, "Ladies, please," I said sarcastically, "You're both pretty!"
Silver laughed at the encounter, and ushered her own teammates over.
"Silv, you're going to rip open my back if you push any harder!" Said Reid, looking at her playfully.
"I wouldn't have to push you so hard if you weren't so stubborn."
"...You gonna introduce us, then?" Midnight asked.
"Oh, yeah, right." Silver blushed a little, "Guys, this is Karia." She gestured to me and I smiled on instinct.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Trae." He said, furrowing his eyebrows and grinning.
"You too." I said, pleased about his friendliness.
"This is Hector, Akana, and Vynx." Silver finished.
Vynx spotted Midnight and wriggled his eyebrows at her, forcing her blush and look away. I stomped on his foot, "Stop it! You're embarrassing yourself."
Hector frowned, "When doesn't he embarrass himself?"
"Good point," Akana chimed.
Vynx turned red, "Shut up, guys! You're cramping my style!"
I laughed, "Dude, nobody says that anymore," I said between giggles.
