I jumped up from the door opening and my ribs sent a scream to my lips that I didn’t let escape. The door creaked open as I squinted at the light and saw Olivia petite frame walk in the door, it slamming and locking behind her. She didn’t spare me a glance as she sat on her bed, leaning on the wall she pulled her knees to her chest and her soft almost silent sobs filled the room.
“Olivia I-“ I started but was cut off by her hissing.
“Shut up Devika. You fucking did this, it’s your fault! You should be under them not me!” She sobbed hysterically. I debated getting up and going to her, but I knew too well that she would push me away with a scream; my ribs weren’t letting me move anyway. I traced a circle on the fabric beneath me, concentrating on the thread pattern of the sheets. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish out of water.
“I’ll win the next one, I promise.” I whispered so quietly I’m not sure she heard.
“Yeah maybe, but then you pull shit like tonight and I end up the one taking the consequences.”
“I didn’t mean to lose Livy.” I said using the nickname I had given her.
“You never do.” She hissed with enough venom to upstage a rattler. After a few minutes of painful silence she spoke again. “You know one day he’s going to get someone new, he’s going to get rid of me and he’s going to make you the new ‘Candy’ for everyone to touch, someone else will fight, and you’ll have to feel the pain you put me through.” I flinched at the thought of what happened earlier and the fact I could hear a smile in her voice.
“We’ll be able to move out by then.” I said even though we had already graduated and it came out sounding less confident and shakier then I intended. Olivia snorted.
“Yeah keep believing he’ll let you move out.” The humour in her words made me wonder if she finally snapped. Silence again filled the room.
“You know he tried to tonight-with me...” My voice was uneven and I held back a sob. “He said he thinks he’s going to give up on my... title... that it doesn’t matter anymore.” This made Olivia inch closer to me, a curious look on her face.
“Did he?”
“No... That Ryan kid came in and he had to go... but he said he wasn’t finished with me yet. Livy, do you really think he will? I mean do it?” I asked in a whisper.
“Yeah I do.” She answered bluntly, emotionless, but I saw a flash of something else... jealously? As quick as it was there it was gone. “Surprised he hasn’t already.” She inched closer even more, she lowered her voice like someone could hear. “Did he kiss you?” I narrowed my eyes at the question but shook my head no. She nodded and sat back.
“Why?” I asked dumbfounded. Why would she ask something like that?
“He has a problem you know?” I raised my eyebrows at her. “With kissing. When he does it with me, he doesn’t kiss me, never wants to, doesn’t have no interest in it, why, I think its cause he thinks kissing is dirty, I never even seen him kiss them other girls he brings home either.” This made me furrow my brows even more as her country accented words soaked into my brain. Why wouldn’t he kiss the girls he sleeps with? “I tried kissing him you know.” I froze with her words as my brain tried to wrap it around them.
