My head pulsed painfully. What in the world happened? I'm not one to fall off the bed in the midst of my sleep. No, this headache felt more internal, inflicted. Placing a cautious hand on my temple, I realized it definitely was internal, no sore spots were on my cranium. Well, I suppose that was a positive. I laid my hand back down on the cold metal surface, my eyes still shut tight in pain.
Metal?
I forced my eyes open, squinting against the blaring red light that swirled around the metal box I found myself in. It was only then I realized I was lying on my back, upon some sort of metal slab that jutted from the wall. "Where am I?" I knew no one could hear me, or maybe they had cameras. I propped myself up on my forearms, the pulsing in my head starting to calm down to a dull thud. Before I could go any further to sit completely up, the metal slab underneath me folded in on itself and dropped me on the cold surface below.
Okay, well now I have more than a hurting headache.
I looked at where the slab had been, apparently it didn't necessarily 'jut' from the wall, more like erected from it. With a heavy sigh, I got to my feet and looked up at the red beacon above me, still flashing around the small room. I couldn't even begin to imagine how I got here. This looked like the equivalent of a slaughter house for psychopaths. I noticed a window on one of the walls, and I walked over to it, standing on my tiptoes to try and peek through.
My efforts were shattered when the whole room knocked me off my feet and back down to the floor that seemed to have now become my best friend. Why did this room alone seem to want me in pain? Wouldn't the serial killer that brought me here find more enjoyment in my pain?
I looked back up at the window to see flashes of light, as if...as if this were an elevator. That made sense...sort of. Okay, I'm in an elevator. I thought about trying to stand again, then immediately rejected the idea. I should wait until this thing stops moving. I'm glad for my choice when my stomach lurches as the elevator stops abruptly. At least I didn't get anymore bruises.
The wall before me suddenly opened like a garage door. Now I could see a much bigger room in front of me, a very...modern room. A large sitting booth went along the far end, big enough for a giant. Staircases went up past my view from my spot in the elevator, I guessed there was more to the room. Should I walk out? Be brave or stay in what I can only assume is safer than the rest of this prison-like facility?
I didn't really have a choice in the matter, which the wall my back was against so fondly told me as it pushed me out into the bigger room. My black shoes slid effortlessly on the metal floor below, making me obey the command of the wall. I slowly stood to my feet, hoping that maybe this time I could stay standing.
I had been right, the stairs along the wall closest to my right went up to two platforms, one on top of another. The highest one seemed almost like a lab, bookshelves along some of the walls and a electrified pink orb illuminating the dark space around it. A huge glass wall was behind it and the giant booth seat, showing another big room, though not occupied with anything.
Tentatively, I walked up the staircase. Who on earth would live here? Who would need such giant seating arrangements? Or a laboratory?
A mad scientist.
Seemed logical. Maybe this lunatic made a giant monster and lived with it. What was with the bigger room behind the glass wall then?
I realized that none of these questions were going to be answered through any amount of observation. I did look on the far wall to my left, however, and noticed a portrait of a long-faced, black haired man. He seemed to be wearing a military uniform with the American flag in the background. I immediately recognized him as our president. There was small font below it, though without my glasses I couldn't read it so far away.
