Ordinary Life
I woke up from the first light from sunrise. Mother and father was still in bed. I quickly got up and got dressed. I slid across the hall and into the kitchen. Inside stood Mara, my older step-sister. She turned over and looked at me with a smile. "I see your up early."
I nodded and pulled out a frying pan from the cabinet. "So what's today's menu?"
"Omelette and bread with vegetable soup."
I nodded and opened the refrigerator. I took out thirty-nine eggs and cracked them into five bowls. I stirred and pored it onto the frying pan, adding some onions, greens, and beacon strips. While I waited, I took loaves of bread and placed them in the oven for few minutes till they're crisp. I turned off the stove and placed the omelette on twenty plates. I went to the den and took out a bag of dog food.
The moment I pour it into three dog bowls, our three huskies, Cedric, Remi, and Enron, came running from their beds. They all jumped on me with joy, which wasn't a good idea. I nearly tumbled if it weren't for Mara; she caught me just in time before I crashed.
She chuckled. "Looks like someone's hyper today."
I laughed along. I put away the dog food back into the den and went to get them water. I watched as they gobbled down their food.
I looked at my watch. There was still two hours before it was time to call everyone up. I went upstairs to change into a track suit. I came back down to see our three pets at the door. I giggled to see them with their leash in their mouth.
"It's like you guys could tell the future or something."
Mara poked her head from the kitchen. She laughed. "These rascals know everything don't they?"
I smiled as I strapped their leash on. "I'm going for a run again. I'll be back in an hour."
"Okay. Don't get lost alright?"
"I'm not five anymore."
"Are you sure?" She teased.
"Yes I'm sure. Bye."
"Bye." She sung, skipping to the couch with a kindle in her hand.
I closed the door and looked up into the sky. It was a bit dark, but I guess that's fine. I looked at them hopefully. "So how was your breakfast?"
Enron grunted. "Dude. It was not a great being a dog, but I guess it was okay."
Cedric whacked his tail at Enron. "Don't complain you idiot. It can't be helped."
Enron whacked him back. "Stop hitting me!"
Next thing you know, they were having a tail fight. Remi jumped in between them, biting their tail.
"Ow!" They cried in unison.
She puffed and glared at them. "Shut up before I rip your ass off."
They both silenced almost immediately. They saluted her and stayed still.
As you can see, Remi and the two aren't actually dogs. They're shifters from heaven, sent to protect the stars after the accident. The others have one too, but I don't know who, nor did the three. These guys are mine, the ones that are living because of me. I gave them part of my life in order for them to protect me, but Enron...I think something went wrong with him.
"Come on guy. Stop and take a run." I said, taking off their leash. I threw it behind the bush and started running. The three tailed behind me. They soon caught up to me, but hell am I going to let them beat me. I sped up a bit. No soon after, it turned into a race. We ran for five blocks and came back in exactly and hour. I stopped at the door, nearly falling to the ground. I leaned on the wall and watched as the three came running this way.
