Hey, thanks for staying with me so far if your reading this.  I'm sorry if I've almost lost some of you, my writing isn't the best.  But it's getting there, I hope.  Anyway, please please please vote and comment.  Tell if you want me to update or if you think I should change anything.  All comments are taken into consideration, good and bad.  Hope you enjoy. -Sally :)

“I was ten when I was changed.  Brady was changed around the same time by the same vampire.  In a way we’re like brother and sister.  But he hates me.  You know the normal vampire things, we drink blood, we’re insanely fast and strong, everyone knows that stuff.” Lily starts.  We’re up in a tree now and Lily’s just starting her story, finally explaining her secret to me.  “But there are things about vampires that no one knows.  Humans know us as demon-like creatures with nothing but a craving for their blood.  That’s only because of our turning.

“Every vampire goes through a turning.  After their changed there isn’t any difference in their personality.  We can still go in sun light and eat and drink like humans.  No one knows we’re vampires then.  But at some point, usually hundreds of years after their changed, a vampire turns.  They become the monsters that humans know us as.  We can’t go in sun light then or be anywhere around human blood without losing everything in us that’s sane.

“It happens to every vampire, but usually not until we’ve been changed for at least a hundred years.  But there are something’s that’ll turn us younger.  It happened to my changer.  She was happy around humans, had lots of friends and even a human boyfriend.  But her ex didn’t like that.  Since he was a vampire he killed all her friends including her boyfriend.  The loss made her go so insane that she turned.  She’d only been a vampire for 20 years so it surprised all of us.

“But it also taught me something.  After that Brady started acting weird.  He wouldn’t leave me alone and kept bugging me about you.  He knew I loved you and kept telling me there was no way you’d love me if you knew what I was.  It didn’t take me long to realize he was just trying to make me mad enough to turn me.  I confronted him about it a few years ago and he just threatened me.  He told me that he’d kill you if he had a reason to.  And to him no human should know about us, so you knowing was a reason to kill you.  That’s why I couldn’t tell you anything.  If Brady would have found out he would have killed you.

“So instead of waiting for me to tell you, Brady started messing with my head.  He’d say things to me about you that almost made me go crazy.  I wanted to tell you my secret more than ever after the fight.  You kept saying you wanted to help me and I kept thinking of Brady saying he’d kill you if I told you anything.

“So I left and stayed away from you for a while.  That was probably worse for me than not telling you and being reminded of Brady’s threats.  I could feel myself turning slowly all week.  That’s why I finally broke down and called you.  You were right, I needed your help.  Telling you this gives Brady the chance to turn me, but staying away from you was worse.”

Lily stops and looks at me.  Honestly her story surprises me.  I don’t know what I expected but that’s not it.  I still have questions though about what’s going on.

“So, if Brady does manage to turn you what would happen?” I ask and Lily’s eyes grow a little sadder, if that’s possible right now.

“I’d stop aging, my diet would change so I could only survive on blood, and all my sanity would disappear.  Around humans I’d be the monster you know as a vampire and I’d never be myself again.” Lily answers.

“I thought you said Brady would try to kill me if you told me anything.  I thought you couldn’t tell me and I had to find out.” I say.

“I thought I couldn’t risk it and I knew at some point I’d break down and try to tell you.  So I charmed myself so I couldn’t say anything about vampires in front of you.  But now you know and I have to risk it.  It’s been turning me slowly inside and you’re the only one who can help me.” Lily says patiently.  It’s amazing how patient she can be, especially with stuff like this that she probably doesn’t like talking about.

“But you said I already knew.  How did I know?” I ask.

“Well, two years ago when Brady told me you’d never love me because of what I was, I tested it.  I showed you what I was and started explaining it all to you.  And you didn’t care.  You said the same thing you did just now, that I’d been like this long enough and nothing was different now that you knew.  You’d said it was nothing but a new secret you knew about me.  That was all right before Brady said he’d kill you if you knew anything.  So the very next day I took your memories.  That’s another thing we can do that no one knows about.  We can charm ourselves and humans in different ways to our advantage.” Lily explains and I remember the picture on my phone.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and pull the picture up.  “Was this the day you told me?” I ask and show it to Lily.  Her eyes widen when she first sees it and then she starts smiling.

“Yes, I thought I’d deleted that picture off the memory card.  Where’d you get it?” she asks me.

“Remember that picture power point we made last summer?  I was looking through it and saw it and something click.  I knew it was important but I couldn’t tell why.” I say and Lily smiles again before giving me my phone back.

“Ok, so enough about my secret.  I’ll tell you more as things come up.  I want to know more about the secret you shared with me.” Lily says looking up at me, her eyes bright as stars.  I smile and tilt my head back thinking.

“Where to start, I guess it’s always been like that.  From your story it sounds like you’ve known for a longer time.  I just figured out I felt that way about you a few days ago though.” I say and look back down at Lily.  Her smiles gone now and she’s just looking at me.

“I’m sorry I ruined our first kiss.  Sometimes love is like a drug to us.  It makes us lose control when it’s that strong.” Lily says touching my lip lightly.  I’d almost forgotten that she’d bit my lip.  “I really wasn’t trying to hurt you.  I just lost control for a second.  But I only got a drop of blood.  Enough to make my eyes turn red but not enough to make any changes what so ever to you.”

“There’s no need to be sorry.  I probably should have warned you.  You seemed pretty surprised at first.” I say.

“I was surprised, but in a good way.  You seemed surprised too though when I pulled you closer.” Lily says looking away for a second.

“What really surprised me was the red eyes.  You know that’s really freaky, the way that your whole eye turns red.” I say.

“It only happens when we have human blood.  I promise it won’t happen again.” Lily says looking back up at me.  “But I’m still sorry about ruining it.”

I roll my eyes and put my hand under her chin, bringing her head up to mine.  “Why be sorry,” I whisper as her eyes cloud over. “When it’s so easy to do it again.”

Lily barely waits for me to finish.  She leans forward fast and we start kissing again even harder than last time.  Her hands are now around my neck and mine around her waist.  Her long blonde hair has come forward making a curtain around us.  Once or twice we nearly fall out of the tree and that slows things down quite a bit.

Eventually Lily pulls away and just looks up at me as if this is all a dream.  Carelessly I trace along the side of her face lightly with my finger tip.  Finally she smiles and whispers in my ear, “I never want this dream to end.”

I only smile and whisper back, “It never will.”
