My stomach wanted - no needed - that homemade chicken. I took in a deep breath, letting out a delighted sigh. It appeared to me that it wasn't done yet. I can hear my stomach begging me for food. But alas, I can't spoil my dinner. Mom's order. I decide to distract myself by seeing what's on TV.
But I can't help but wonder how long its been since she left. Surely she couldn't have been gone that long.
I looked at the clock on my phone. I stand corrected. Its been about 2 hours since mom said she was gonna go to the store. Being me, the worst possible thoughts came to my mind.
What if she got kidnapped? By aliens? And they're probing her right now!?!?!
" Nah, that wouldn't have happened." I told myself, " She probably saw someone in the store and is currently talking to them right now." I felt calm now. At least I have a reason as to why she's so late. It has its flaws that I pick out quickly though.
I migrated from the kitchen to the living room couch. I found my usual spot - the last section of the couch on the left side that dipped down, which is utterly the true form of relaxation.
Roi, my dachshund, waddles up to me and barks. I assume he wants to be up on the couch as well. I pick him up and set him next to me, and he seems to be satisfied. My hands find the remote and turn the channel.
Documentary about seahorses, skip. Dora, skip. Pokemon... Tempting but skip. Lady and the Tramp comes on and I keep it on the channel. I feel its appropriate considering my guest next to me and Roi is completely happy and seems to be going to sleep.
My phone starts to vibrate next to me. I turn to see who it is. Piper's texting me. I pick the phone up and read the text:
Heyyyyyy

✌I once again turn my phone off. Roi puts his head on my lap and noses my hand. He wants me to pet him. I chuckle and scratch behind his ear. He's content now. Knowing he's happy makes me happy.
I was happy until a thought ran in the back of my mind. Mom still isn't home. She couldn't be there for that long. What is she doing? I try to shake the thought out of my head, but it still nags me.
Dad. He must be calling that he's heading home now. I pick it up and answer.
" Hey dad. What's up?" I casually ask. Silence. I can hear faint sirens. Curiosity leaked my interests.
" Where are you? Sounds like there's an ambulance." I comment on. Perhaps he had been in a car accident. Didn't seem that outnof the park, dad drives well above speed limits all the time. About time something happened to make him drive slower.
" Mel, there's been an accident i-involving y-your mother..." The voice on the other end quivers. My body freezes. An accident? Maybe he's pulling my leg... but he sounds so serious, he can't be joking.
" I-I know its gonna b-be hard for you to cope but.... A truck smashed straight into your mothers car a-and...." He started choking up. My stomach drops to my feet. My head is reeling. Don't tell me....
" She isn't dead yet, but I talked to the paramedics and they don't think she'll be alive long." It isn't long until I hear sobs and a thump, possibly the phone dropping.
More voices are heard on the other end, trying to comfort the crying man. This was too much to take in. I just saw her.... This can't be real life.
I fall to the floor, absolutely crushed. The phone is in my hand, and I can hear my dad calling out to be on my phone, but I cant hear him over the words that are repeating in my head:
She isn't gone, I just saw her. She isn't gone, I just saw her...
