Early 2019

This is too far, Maine begs as angry tears stream down her cheeks.

Wear it, Meng. 'Wag na wag mo tanggalin ulit, he shoots back. His voice is a jagged ice splinter.

Her hands fly to her face, her mascara stains her sallow cheeks. Her body starts to shake as she sobs.

Everything has gotten too far. Too far.

RJ and Maine are alone in the kitchen of her condo. It is nearly midnight, and the rains have just started to fall. He has just arrived at her unit, angry as always. He holds the despicable object in the palm of his hand. She hates the sight of it. She hates how it silently sparkles, reminding her of the lies they have to keep telling.

Wag natin gawin to. Please don't make me do this, she pleads.

He grabs her hand.

Akala mo ba gusto ko rin ito? he asks. His voice is still cold and unforgiving.

God, RJ, this has to stop. It has to stop.

AKIN NA KAMAY MO.

No!

He grabs it anyway. Her wrist turns red at the brute force that he grasps it with.

'Wag na wag mo tanggalin ulit. His voice is spectacularly cold.

She wrestles to free her hand from his iron grip. She stares at him hard as more tears flow.

There was once a stranger she met on TV.

She fell terribly in love with that stranger.

Now he is violently gripping her hand and sliding an engagement ring up her finger with such force that it scrapes some of her skin off. She looks at him through her tears. She now barely recognizes him.

He is once again the stranger she met on TV.
