She flipped through her "People" magazine admiring all the golden skin, size zero celebrities displayed on the pages.

"I can't pretend I don't care anymore!" was heard loudly from downstairs.

She turned the page which read: Ten Ways to get a Bikini Body This Summer!

"Quit blaming me for this!" she heard from downstairs.

She turned the page which read Stunning Makeup Must Haves for Summer

"I HATE YOU! YOU'RE A MONSTER!" She heard before a loud bang then crash noise came from downstairs, as if a glass had shattered.

She shut her magazine and turned up her music. She grabbed a long plain white over the shoulder bag, and began stuffing it with her favourite clothes. She tied her long blonde hair in a high ponytail, and put on her big round lens sunglasses. These were her favourite because they made her feel like a celebrity. She admired herself in the mirror and began dancing around her room. The young innocent 17 year old girl enjoyed the little things to brighten up her otherwise melancholic life. She stopped in front of the mirror to put on her favourite pink lipstick called "Sedona". She liked it as it was a shiny neon pink, it went well with her pale skin tone. This lipstick that was named after the city she lived in was a sort of Saturday night kind of pink.

It was ironic that (despite her fancy lipstick) she never went out on Saturday nights. Her parents never let her. They seemed to be so concerned about their daughter, that they neglected to worry about their own tired relationship.

However, she had a heart that craved adventure.

A hunger to see the world, meet new people, and make memories.

She wanted more than a boring one-city life, and believed that life wasn't meant to be lived in one place.

She needed to find herself and she felt that the only way to do that was by seeing the world.

She decided that she wanted to live a luxurious life like the girls in the magazines, and to become famous.

She turned her music down to see if the fight had settled downstairs.
"I want a divorce!"
"Oh here we go again..."
"No I mean it this time Mark!"
She turned her music back up, and folded her out dated magazine and added it to her bag of clothes. She stormed out of her room, down the hall, and into her parents' room. She went into the closet and grabbed the nicest pair of shoes she could find, they were a white pair of flats with a gold lining. She slipped her red painted toes into the expensive shoes and went back to her room. The young girl could never afford her own style, so she often stole expensive items to appear more wealthy than she truly was. She looked at herself in the mirror and confidently said

"Today's the day."

She glanced over at her bedroom wall where a large map of the world hung. It had been circled and drawn on in red marker by her for years. She ripped it off, and thumbtacks plummeted to the floor. She folded it up and placed it in her bag, she smiled. Next, she went into the drawer beside her bed, and pulled out a mason jar packed with every allowance, birthday present, and babysitting salary she had ever earned. She placed that in her bag as well. She took one last look in the mirror, and pulled down her floral crop top to reach the top of her high wasted shorts. She took one final look at her childhood room, sighed, and shut the door.

For good.

Downstairs, her parents were still at each others throats. She swiftly snuck down the stairs and out the back door, as she has done before, without being noticed.

She began walking down the sandy road, and felt comfortably warm under the sweltering Arizona sun. She turned back to look at her comfortable, childhood, Sedona home one last time.

"I hope I never see this place again."

She said to herself as she extended her arm towards the road, sticking up her right thumb and patiently waiting for the car in the distance to approach.
