I left for my room, getting ready to pack. I had just finished calling my parents, and spit out a basic summary of what happened, and that I just needed some time to get away from this whole thing, that I was just tired of all the drama. They were disappointed that I wasn't coming home, but said they understood, even though I'm sure they didn't. I was sorry, but I couldn't take the questions that were going to come, the ones I wouldn't be able to answer without breaking. I knew that wherever I went, fame would follow me like a magnet, since all the Selected were "valued members of the community" and basically, we were all celebrities. Ashley was already married, and so were the other girls. I know that Tuesday recently got engaged to a famous actor, while Tiny was dating the CEO of Vogue Magazine. I hoped I wouldn't have to deal with losers like them, but living with Celeste... she probably would have boys line up outside her house everyday, but at least she would protect me from them. I sighed as I packed up, putting away my pictures and jewelry in my luggage, when I stumbled upon the bracelet. The one Maxon got me from New Asia... I felt my face melt, remembering the sweet memories of when he gave it to me. When everything was as it should have been, I thought. As I looked at the bracelet, deep in thought, I was surprised by the sudden slam of the door opening, and looked up. My face faltered as I saw... Kriss and... Maxon. Oh no. Why? He knew I was heartbroken, but he came through my room, a triumphant look on his face. Did he come to rub it in my face? To rip my self-respect into shreds??

"Hello, America." Kriss said sweetly, a small wrapped gift in her hand. I quickly wiped away my tears and tried to put a composed expression on my face. Maxon would not see me cry anymore. I just wasn't that type of girl.

" Hi, Kriss. Congratulations." I told her, not looking Maxon, knowing that if I did, I probably would do a series of crying, screaming, and punching, and that was not the way I wanted to get out of this palace. She grinned, looking ecstatic.

"Thanks. Some things were just meant to be." She said dreamily, smiling at Maxon. I felt my heart broken into fourths now. Salt in the wound, Kriss. Salt in the would.

"They sure are." I said, half smiling, knowing that it probably looked more like a snarl. I couldn't take much more of this, especially with Maxon giving me a blazing gaze. I had to get out of here. As I looked around my room, looking for a way out, I heard someone else coming into the room. Celeste. Thank god, I thought. I gave her a get me out of here look, hoping that she would understand. If she didn't, she did a good job anyways.

"Excuse me, but I'm cutting in," she said sweetly, shooting Maxon a look that said get out. He seemed to understand, as he took Kriss's hand, leading her out the room, probably to his. Suddenly, Kriss came back, and handed me the small gift. I looked at her confused, and she gave me one last small smile before running out of the room, back to Maxon the sweetheart. As soon, as they left, I buried my hand into my face, as Celeste came and sat with me on the floor.

"America, what happened? Why is Maxon so mad?" She asked, looking genuinely confused.

"I... I didn't m-mean to!!" I sputtered and felt my barriers breaking, needing to get this out," I just wanted to be friends, b-but he wouldn't leave me! And I loved him, but after a while I said no! But Maxon caught us in the hall yesterday and... he l-left me." I positively burst into tears after this, crying and crying unable to stop the emotions leaking through my wall.

"Oh America." Celeste whispered," Who was the guard?" she asked softly, and I blubbered for a long, long time before answering.

"Aspen." I whispered, ashamed.

"What?!" Celeste asked, dropping he purse.

"W-why? What's wrong?" I asked as Celeste's face turned pasty white.

"Nothing." She tried for a brave smile, but I could see right through her act.

"What Celeste? What did you see? What did you do?" I asked, on the verge of pannicking.

"But... you didn't know he loves Lucy?"
