I sprint as fast as my legs can carry me, the sound of feet pounding on the floor behind me. My breath catches as I stumble and quickly regain my footing barely glancing behind me as I slide around the corner. Panting, I scramble into the girls toilets and lock the door behind me. Leaning on the door, I breath slowly and try to calm myself.
Bullies. They're everywhere. Hiding around corners, ready to humiliate you and make you feel inferior to the rest of the world. They pick on the weaker subjects, getting into your head and messing with your mind. They bully until there's nothing left to bully. The shell of a person, scared of their surroundings. Scared of what's there and what isn't there. Scared of being alone and being with people. They break you.
I close my eyes as I feel the salty tears begin to slide down my face, a sob threatening to escape from my mouth. I'm hunted constantly, tracked down by vicious beasts all trying desperately to tear me apart, limb from limb. I can almost feel my mind breaking down as I struggling to stay strong for the people who need me, for Delilah.
She's the only family I've got, if we had to draw one of those family trees at school my tree would only have one branch. Neatly labelled with the word 'sister' in my small, rounded writing. She's so small, only 8 years old yet she's my whole world, the only family I've ever known. I'm only 7 years older than her yet she regards me as her mother, it's scary to have so much responsibility.
"Hello? Luna?" A soft voice calls out from just in front of the toilet door. I hold my breath, not wanting to be found. "I know you're in here,"
I sigh and slowly open the door to see Elodie standing there. Soft blue eyes and a timid smile looking back at me. I smile gently and wipe away the trickle beneath my eye.
"Is Florence gone" I whisper, barely making eye contact as I watch water spill out of the tap, immersing my hands in liquid.
"Yeah, she's on the playground picking on some year 7," she sighs.
I shudder thinking of the fear that would now be flooding that child's body.
"Poor kid," I mutter, making my way out of the bathroom. Most stories would now tell you a sob story about how me and Florence used to be best friends. Not this one, in reality she's just a bully and that's probably all she'll ever be. She will only ever regard me with her strong resentment of everyone around her and that's okay.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
The school clocks drive me crazy, the same one in every room. Making the same noise. Ticking at the same time. A strange mix of unity and isolation, all moving together in different places. At least one student in each room counting down the seconds until they're free from the constraints of school.10 minutes left
7 minutes left
4 minutes left
2 minutes left
40 seconds
10 seconds
A loud ringing fills the room as students hurry to shove their belongings into bags and chat as they flood through the doors. I push my way through the sea of people and run to the bus stop just before the bus pulls out. I pay and swing myself onto an empty seat. As I put my headphones in, music envelops me and I watch the world go by as we drive home.
