Troye was looking up and down at himself in the mirror. His normally curly hair laid flat, straightened and slicked down with gel. He had on a white shirt with a black blazer over it and long black pants to match. His normally clear blue eyes were bloodshot red from lack of sleep and crying.
The night before he could hear his mother crying from his room. He had tried to block out her sobs with his blanket, but they just echoed around in his head. He wanted to go to, his brother, Steele's room for comfort, but he knew that he would most likely be high as hell, so he took refuge in Tyde's room with him. They stayed up most of the night just talking to each other about school and other things. They went to sleep only when they heard the front door open, around 3:00 am, and their father walked in.
Tonight his father was hosting a dinner party for his office that night. Most of his family was not happy with this. It meant that they had to pretend to be a perfect family. Oh well. It was only for a night.
As he walked downstairs, his barely worn shoes squeaked against the hardwood stairs. He saw his brother Steele first. He had on his best suit, hands shaking from withdrawal, but now enough for anyone to notice. His mother looked fine and very pretty. Her jewelry sparkled so much that it made up for the lack of it in her eyes. Her father looked just as he always did happy but guilty. Then there was Tyde. He was still a sweet innocent boy that always had worry in his eyes. Troye loved him the most out of everyone in his family and his whole life.
The doorbell ringing shook Troye out of his thoughts. He heard voices by the door.
"Hey Peter. How are you?" That was Troyes dad speaking to his boss.
"I'm doing just fine. How about you?" Peter had a soft voice. Troye had not heard a soft voice in quite a while. Then his dad's gruff one cut back in.
"I'm doing well. Oh is this your son you've been telling me about. He looks like quite the gentleman."
"Oh yes he is Shaun. His name is Connor. We have two other boys and a daughter, but they are still in America. Oh and this is my wife Cheryl." Cheryl stuck out a hand and Shaun took it firmly in his. Then he turned around, gesturing them inside motioning at his own family.
"This is my wife Laurelle, my oldest son Steele, Troye, and my youngest Tyde." After being introduced Troye just stood there awkwardly waving and looking down at his shoes. Then something came up to him and blocked the light. He was meet by a pair of green eyes.
