"What do you mean, this is a fixed point in time!? Listen, Earth is on the verge of full scale invasion and this man might be the only one able to stop it!"

From the blog of John Watson:

January 7th 2014

It has been a while since my last blog posting and I apologize; a lot has happened. Our last case involved a man by the name of Charles Augustus Magnusson. He was an expert in the art of blackmail. He had dirty files on every person in England that had anything to hide. That included my wife. The mission for me and Sherlock was to find where Magnusson was keeping all these files. We had heard he stored them in Appledore vault, residing somewhere in his large mansion. We ended up trading Mycroft's laptop, which was full of classified information involving the security of England, to Magnusson in exchange for the location of Appledore. It was then revealed to us that Appledore existed only in the villain's mind palace; not something physical that we could destroy. We had just handed over Mycroft's laptop full of classified information, so, naturally, we had Scotland Yard's helicopters all around us. I was at a loss for ideas on how to mend the problem; my wife was still in danger and we were about to get arrested. Sherlock then realized there was only one way out... There, in front of Scotland Yard, he shot Charles Magnusson in the head. After we were apprehended, Sherlock was forced to go to Eastern Europe for some undercover work which- I was later informed- would eventually kill him. However, while still on the plane, a message was transmitted all over England to let us know that Moriarty was back and it was decided that Sherlock could return immediately, seeing as he was England's only hope. Besides being clever, my friend Sherlock can also be daft and rash at times, but he's my friend, my best friend. He ultimately sacrificed himself for my safety and that of my wife. It's a debt I doubt I will ever come to pay in full. I can only hope I will have the chance to do so.

Chapter 1:

Mycroft and the Watson family heard the plane before they could see it. Presently, it came into sight and landed where it had taken off not 8 minutes ago. The hatch of the plane opened downward, providing steps to make exiting easier. A tall, lean figure with dark curly hair and a black pinstripe suit emerged, ducking downward as he left the aircraft.

"Hello, again," John smirked as Sherlock approached the scene. Mycroft finished speaking to his chauffer and turned urgently towards his brother. Though Sherlock wouldn't admit it, seeing his brother upset was disconcerting for him.

"What could be so important that my exile was called off?" he inquired a bit sarcastically. Mycroft said nothing and held up his cell phone playing the message of Moriarty saying 'did you miss me?' in a constant loop. Sherlock's smirk vanished, replaced by a look of anxious confusion. At first, he said nothing and all that could be heard was the repeating words 'did you miss me?'

"But... that's not possible," Sherlock murmured. "Moriarty's dead, I saw"-

"You saw it happen," Mycroft annoyingly finished his sentence. "Everyone standing around that hospital building when you jumped off saw you die as well, yet, here you are," he added with a smile that never reached his eyes. Sherlock didn't reply, instead, he trotted past his brother and began jogging away from the airport. Mycroft did not turn to watch him, but looked down, seemingly annoyed with his phone.
