Boring. That was the only word Sarah Callaghan could think of to describe the 'beginning of the year' speech. As usual she was falling asleep just standing there. She could see the same thing was happening to her friend Katya Orlov.

'Poor girl, standing all the way in the front.'

Katya, being very petite, was at the front of their line. Despite being dressed in the same standard school uniform with the colors red and white, the Russian girl's spiky blonde hair and charming grey eyes were a strong contrast to Sarah's long flaming orange hair. Most people could mistake the petite girl for a little fairy doll, something the boys loved.

At that moment she turned around and winked at Sarah who wondered how in the world the principal didn't see her. The Irish girl bit her lip, trying to keep from laughing. Katya was always hyper and mischievous, like a pixie that drank too much coffee. Always getting into trouble but somehow managing to talk her way out every time. And to add to all of this, the girl was a master in the art of pranks.

Suddenly an annoyed sigh broke Sarah out of her thoughts. 'Wonderful, he's here.' she thought sarcastically.

The boy in question was standing a few rows ahead of Sarah. He was of medium height, with black hair and piercing blue eyes that made girls swoon. His name was Kaito Miura and he was considered the Ice prince of their school. Half-British, half Japanese, his aristocratic traits caused many girls to swoon. Known as the heir to a multi-million dollar company, Miura also had many connections.  But ever since they had met in middle school they argued all the time. Sarah considered him an arrogant jerk while he thought she was loud and uncouth. She shot him a fiery glare which he returned with one of his own, cold as ice.

As soon as the ceremony was over, Katya, having seen the exchange, rushed over and herded Sarah out of the auditorium. "How many times do I have to say to avoid him, seeing as you always go at each other's throats?" she exclaimed exasperated. Sheepishly, the red-head mumbled: "He started it..."

"Don't think that I didn't see that look Sarah Calleghan." With a sniff, Katya turned on her heel and led the way to the classrooms. Sarah watched her little friend in awe. 'She definitely drinks too much coffee.' she thought as Katya skipped through the grounds.

The school in itself was impressive, beautiful gardens to walk in, a wonderful cafeteria for the day students and a dining room for those who were boarding students. Sarah had a scholarship while Katya paid, but they both stayed on campus. The dorms were a five minute walk from the classrooms, the girl's dorms on the left and the boy's dorms on the right.

As they walked towards the classrooms to get their books and schedules, Katya checked her messages on her phone. Not seeing where she was going she literally ran into a young man, knocking them both down.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going." she exclaimed as she got up.

"Watch it twerp." The Ice prince snarled, looming over Katya, while he dusted his uniform off.

"She said she was sorry, maybe you should have been paying more attention to your surroundings." Sarah sneered, eyes flashing dangerously.

Slowly turning his glare towards her, Miura icily said "Maybe if she wasn't so ditzy she would see where she was going."

Katya quickly moved between the two before it came down to a beating. She sighed as she watched her hot-headed friend stalk away with a final glare. Despite the little time they had known each other, she knew very well that Sarah would never think well about Kaito. With a sharp nod to the dark-haired boy she quickly followed her friend.

As they walked towards their classroom after picking up their schedules Sarah glanced at her small friend. She knew that her attitude exasperated the younger girl but she couldn't help it, Miura just knew exactly how to push her buttons. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even see the walking stack of books until they collided. It seemed that problems always happened in pairs.
