Scavenger

Chapter 1

"Bye!" 

I yell as I walk out the door so my mom can hear from in the shower that I'm going to the bus. Our house is a small one floor house with only four bedrooms and two bathrooms so I don't have to yell too loud.

"Bye Ellie!" yells back one out of my three sisters. As the door is about to shut I hear the pierceing scream of my youngest sibling, my brother Noah.

"Wait!" he screams as he runs to the door and gives my legs a big hug because he wasn't tall enough to give me proper one due to him being only three. I kiss the top of his head, "Bye bye."

I close the clear screen door shut as he waves to me. I smile and wave back then start to jog down to the end of my driveway that seems to go on forever.

As soon as I reach the end I see my bus coming up the road so I quickly run to the other side of the street on the side of the door so as soon as it pulls up I can just step on without having to run around it in the freezing cold air.

As I step on the bus I slide into my usual seat, third from the front, and sit with my back to the window so I can lay out my legs. I take my headphones out of my jacket pocket and place them in. I click on my phone, go to my music, press shuffle, and close my eyes and take a short nap.

I wake up to the constant chatter and noise of everyone getting on their book bags and grabbing all their things as we pull into school. I sling my bad over my shoulder and climb off the bus.

As I get off I see my best friend Cora up ahead walking into the building. As I call after her she turns around with a smile.

"Hey," she says. "Ready for the Algebra test? Everyone says that they failed it. Its going to be really hard."

"That's today?!" I exclaim. "I'm completely forgot! Shoot, I'm doomed. My moms gonna kill me!"

"Don't worry about it, I'm sure you will do great." she says. We continue to walk and talk to Math.

After school I can't stop stressing over the test. I don't find out my grade until tomorrow and it's driving me insane. I walk down my driveway to my house and glance over to say hi to my dogs but notice that the fence is open.

What? That's not supposed to be open... oh well I'll ask my mom.

I  walk up my steps and open the door.

"Mom, I'm home!"
