I was most of the way through my shift before I really started glancing at the clock. He should be here by now, kept bouncing around my head, Seth is never late.

"Ken," Polly, my supervisor, stood in front of me with her hands on her hips. She only barely came up to about my shoulder, but there was no way I could miss her. She was barely over five foot, with a rounded figure. Her curly brown hair was cut short on the sides with a bunch of floof on top. She had a sweet face and pretty, blue eyes. I was almost terrified of her. "Ken. Hellooo, you're not getting paid for standing and worrying at the clock. Table 5 needs drinks."

"Sorry, Polly," I smiled at her as sweetly as I could. "I'll get right on it."

Polly shouted after me as I walked away. "He'll come, Ken. Stop freaking out."

I shot her a half smile and she smirked back. I guess I wasn't being subtle about my incessant waiting. He was only five minutes late after all.

The he I kept thinking about was my boyfriend, Seth. He and I had been dating since high school when he asked me to our Senior prom and we ended up winning prom king and...king. We ended up going to college together. Seth graduated early and was working as an intern for some large company. I was still finishing up my degree.

Ever since I started working at Tony's Diner, it became a thing with us for him to come to the diner half an hour before my shift ends, get a soda and a piece of pie, wait for me to get off so we could go home together.

If there was one word I'd use to describe Seth, it was punctual. Well, there are a lot more words I'd like to use to describe him, but I digress. He always arrived early to everything. If he was on time, he was late. If he was late, he would be grumpy about it for a week. So it was extremely out of character for him to be late, which is why I was worrying.

One my way to grab a pitcher of water for Table 5, I glanced discreetly at my phone. No new messages. I stood there for a moment, weighing any options. Calling the police would be laughable. He was only late for five minutes. As worrisome as that was for me, that would hardly be cause for alarm for the authorities. I'd be written off as an overly attached boyfriend.

I could try calling him, texting him, trying to get a response. But my boss was already unhappy with how I got distracted whenever Seth was here. He wouldn't be thrilled with me being on my phone during shift.

That left me with waiting. Which I hated the most of all, but was my best option at least until I got off. I chewed my lip nervously. I was such a wreck right now.

"It's only five minutes," I told myself. "He's fine. It's only five minutes."

I kept repeating this mantra to myself as I walked back out onto the floor to deliver the water. I didn't realize that I had been mulling things over for so long, half the ice was mostly melted.

I ghosted over to Table 5 and delivered water when the door opened. I damn near dropped the pitcher and knocked over a customer's glass trying to turn to look at the door. Lo and behold, there was Seth, smiling at me as though I hadn't been panicking for the past ten minutes.

Despite the fact that we had already been dating for about four years, I was still taken away by him. We were about the same height, I think he was an inch shorter. His pale blond hair was tidy, but unkempt at the same time. He had a slim figure, but he wasn't weak by any means. His muscles were more slender, delicate. He had deep blue eyes, deeper than any I've ever seen before. His face reflected his slender figure. He had angular cheeks and jawline.

I was hopelessly in love with him.

As usual, he was wearing his black leather jacket with jeans. I loved it when he wore jeans. They hugged his hips perfectly, tight enough everywhere else that I wasn't sure whether I loved them more on or off of him.
