I opened my eyes and sat up. The tears from the night before were dried on my face. I wiped then off and looked around. The cave I jumped into was small and not occupied. It was bright enough to see because little bits of light soaked into the cave from open spots in the entrance. The rock blocked the entrance and exit enough so that any creature willing to kill me couldn't sneak in. I hugged my knees and sighed. Well, it's obvious I can't show up at the orphanage. The'd kill me. Unless I've already killed them. I wiped the dirt from my clothes and stood up. I was going out of the cave. I needed food, water, and company. I walked to the rock and got a grip on a jagged part. I rolled the rock out of the way and walked out. I put the rock back and turned around. I had run deep in the forest and all I could see was trees. I sighed. This might take a while.
I had been walking for about 5 minutes and I found no water source nor any food. I sat down on a rock and put my head in my hands.
"Owoooo!!!!" I heard in the distance. I jumped. A wolf? Would it kill me? I slowly stepped backward. I needed to get back to the cave now!
"Owoooo!!!!" The wolf howled again. I panicked.
"Don't kill me!" I screamed. Stupid! Now the wolf knew where I was! I ran the way I came trying not to be too loud.
"Owoooo!!!!" It wasn't in the distance anymore. It was gaining on me!
"Owoooo!!!!" Right behind me! I turned around as I ran and saw it between the trees a bit behind me. It was bright gray with brown eyes, sharp nails, and pointy teeth. I screamed. I kept running. I started to turn forward again when I bumped into something furry. I fell on the ground. I sat up and rubbed my back. I opened my eyes slowly to see a tall black bear infront of me. It didn't look happy.
"AHHHHHHH!" I screamed. Now there was two wild beasts after me! I struggled myself up and started to run away. Then I remembered the wolf. The bear charged at me. I covered my face. This was the end.
"Grrr...." I looked through my hands. The wolf had jumped infront of me, stopping the bear. It growled and tried to bite the bear. The bear got up on its hind legs, accidentally giving the wolf an advantage. The wolf bit the bear's leg, making it bleed. The bear whined as it slumped away. Did the wolf just... save me? It turned around and sat down. It stuck out its tounge and wagged it's tail. It's not killing me. Is it friendly? I stood straight up and walked away. The wolf followed and sat down again. Maybe it was friendly. I bent down and pet the wolf. It growled at first but stopped when he realized I wasn't trying to hurt him. I sat down and hugged him. He just sat there.
"Thanks." I said. I stood up. "I'll call you... Hunter." I smiled. I swear he smiled back. I walked over to another tree and slapped my leg.
"Come here, Hunter!" I called. He almost skipped over to me. I smiled. I walked back the way I had come, Hunter right behind me.I found the cave a while after, it almost time to go to bed. I yawned. I pushed open the rock and walked in. Hunter came in and inspected the area. Once he figured out it was safe, he sat down and looked at me.
"This is my current home." I said and nodded. I closed the "door way" and laid down where I had slept the previous night. Hunter came to me and laid down right next to me. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. So did I.
