~~* Monday, May 2nd*~~
Like every other morning, the bright sunlight peeking through my curtains woke me. I pushed myself to a sitting position and yawned. The mansion was silent today, Mama and Daddy were both at work, while I was on Spring Break. I was off for the whole week, and today was only the beginning. I shoved my Bee Gees duvet covers off and entered my walk-in closet. I put on my studded Western blue jeans, Western-style button-down shirt, and my black cowboy hat with the teal Texas Longhorn on it. I brought my black cowboy boots down to the large foyer and headed into the kitchen for breakfast. On my way to the cupboard, I put on my Bee Gees Spirits Having Flown record. With the beautiful sound of Barry Gibb's voice playing, I cooked oatmeal and set a bowl of fruit out for myself. I could hear Reckless neighing from the barn. I piled the food into my mouth so I could let Reckless out of his stall and let him into the pasture. I grabbed my banana and ate it on the way out to the barn.
Reckless was anxiously pawing the ground with his foreleg. I opened up his stall.
"I know buddy. You're gonna be with them in just a minute." He neighed to his friends in the pasture. They neighed in reply while I got his halter hooked up. I then led him out to the pasture and unhooked the gate, taking off his halter so he could be free once again. "I'll see you later boy! Bye bye!" He neighed to me and I locked the gate back up.
After mucking out Reckless' stall and scattering more woodchips around it, I went back into the house and washed up. The Bee Gees record replayed itself again. I'd forgotten to switch it off.
As I walked through the many rooms of our home, a thought suddenly came to me. I was bound to get bored, holed up in this mansion all day with no one to talk to. I had a friend down the road who might wanna visit. He went to a private school in Oklahoma City and they were on Spring Break also. Without a second thought I went to the phone and dialed his number.
"Hello? Allen?"
"Veronica?"
"Yeah it's me. Listen, my parents are both gone at work, are your mom and dad home?"
"No. They're at work too. Why?"
"Can you come over?"
"Yeah, I'll be right over. See ya in a little bit." I heard him hang up on the other end. I set the phone down on the receiver and went upstairs to make sure my hair was okay. Allen wasn't really my boyfriend, but he was my only friend and we were. . . close.
The doorbell rang downstairs and I knew it was him. I let him in the large oak double-doors and he went straight to my room.
"Gosh it's been forever since I've been here!" He exclaimed, once we'd reached my room.
"I know. I'll bet you missed seeing my beautiful Bee Gees posters, huh?"
"Yeah. Right." He chuckled and came up behind me, brushing the hair away from the back of my neck and planting gentle kisses down the length of it, tickling my skin.
"Allen, stop!" But as much as I'd like to believe I wanted to refuse him, deep down inside I knew I loved it, and I think he knew it too, because only moments later he scooped me into his arms and laid me down on the bed. I placed my hands behind his neck as he leaned down and kissed my collarbone. I closed my eyes let his hands travel down my body. His hands stopped on the front of my pants and I shot straight up, pushing his hands away.
"We shouldn't be doing this!" On my way to my washroom I noticed something odd about my Bee Gees poster. It was still there, but instead of the usual photo of them, there was only a blank white space. A noise sounded from the washroom. Allen came up behind me and grasped my hand.
"Ready?" He asked. I nodded.
"1, 2, 3." He opened the door and there on the floor of my washroom were no other than The Bee Gees.
I gasped and Allen stepped in front of me. "Are they who I think they are? Veronica? You know them?"
"No! I've never seen them here before in my life! This is so awesome!" I whisper-yelled.
"What are you guys doing in my girl's washroom?" His girl? Hmm, I could get used to that.
The trio stood up and brushed off the backs of their jeans. "Who are you two?"
"I'm Veronica. This is my. . . boyfriend, Allen."
"Well, nice to meet you, Veronica."
"I would appreciate if you'd answer my question." Allen snapped. I squeezed his hand in an effort to reassure him that everything was alright.
"Well young man, to answer your question, we were in the bedroom until we heard footsteps coming down the hallway. Then ole Robin here decided it would be best to hide until you'd left."
"What are you doing in my house though?" I asked, stepping out from behind Allen.
"We don't know actually, we kind of just showed up here." Maurice said.
"Well, we'd appreciate it if you'd get-" I elbowed Allen and he stopped whatever he was about to say.
"What he means is, you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like. Daddy and Mama get home around six though, so ya'll should be gone by then."
Allen and I watched them exchange looks with one another and walk past us and into the bedroom.
"Nice room you got here mate. Is it yours?" Maurice directed the question at me.
"Oh! Yes it's mine, well, not mine, it's my parents' but you know." I nervously replied. The Bee Gees were in my room right now. . . The Bee Gees!
They inspected the walls around them and looked flabbergasted when they realized the walls were covered in posters of them.
When they weren't looking, I ripped down all the posters I had of the post Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band era.
"You're a big fan I'm guessing." Robin observed.
I wrung my hands out and took a deep breath before replying, "Yeah. You guys are awesome." He only smiled in return, and I got the feeling I'd annoyed him. I'm sure they get fans complimenting them all the time.
"Veronica? How bout' we go downstairs and leave them to themselves?" Allen walked to the door and waited in the doorway for me to follow.
"Yeah, right. If you three need anything just give me a holler!" I waved to them quickly before he shut the door with a click behind me.
When Allen and I sat side by side on the sofa and switched on The Monkees, the only thought on my mind was my dream had come true. I'd finally met my greatest idols. But now I just needed to decipher how they got here. It would have to wait though, for Allen leaned across the sofa to be and wrapped his arms around my neck, kissing me in the most romantic way possible.
