Miami, Florida. What a glorious city. Palm trees dancing in the fresh, summer breeze. The ocean singing beautiful songs in the sunlight. Cars driving to and from exotic places. Friends hanging out in the Miami Mall, the most special place in the world.
It was walls made out of cobblestone imported from Greece. The shops with inspiring things imported from all across the world. My favorite is the fountain in the food court. Its shape is like a pillar from ancient ruins of Athens. The water sounds like waterfalls in the middle of the mall. I go there like almost everyday with my bff, Tayla after school. But still, its the most wonderful city. Oh my gosh, I can't stop talking about it.
Well reader, i could probably tell what you're thinking. You are probably thinking about me to stop telling you about my beautiful, tropical city. Well, I'm sorry. Ok, my story begins in a school. Not just any particular school. It is Miami high school. In school, Tayla and I are like outcasts. Mostly, I am. Well, to tell you the truth, reader I'm not really a social person. I just like "hanging out in the shadows." One day, Tayla and I were walking to our world history classes. My phone started vibrating against my body. I stopped and pulled the phone out of my pocket to see who was texting me. Mom:
Miki, I'm checking you out at 11. Im also checking your brother and sisters out of school. Luv mom :-*
What?! Why would Mom want all four of us kids to be at home or someplace after 11?
"Who was that, Miki? asked Tayla. Her wavy light blonde hair fell onto her sparkling, blue eyes. She looks like an angel of heaven. With her white skin and the sapphire eyes and her smile. Oh, she glows whenever she smiles. Whenever she smiles, my sometimes horrible day turns into a day of happiness.
"My mom," I whispered. "I'm being checked out at 11." I nearly thought that Taz or Caramel have died or something bad has happened. The thought nearly brought tears to my eyes.
"What? Why?" Tayla shouted. Everyone stopped and stared at us. We stopped also. Eyes were like an xray as if they were looking right through our souls. "Back to whatever you guys were doing!"
Wow, they actually went back to whatever they were doing.
"I don't know, T," I walked to the front of Tayla's class and paused.
"Well, tell me everything tomorrow or when you get back, OK?"
"All right, but I don't think I will come back to school."
"Ok, but still." We hugged until the music on the intercom came on. " I better be heading to class."
"Yeah." I rushed into Mrs. K's class as soon as the bell rung. I walked over to my desk and sat down. As soon as I pulled my backpack off, the phone started to ring. I looked over to the clock. 11:01.
"Hello, Ms. Kellen speaking," says Ms. K. "Mikayla, you're checking out."
"It's Miki," I corrected. I don't understand why she keeps calling me that. I only get called like that whenever i get in trouble. I picked up my stuff and walked out the door on the way to the office.
