Chapter 1 - The Box

My eyes shot open, but I could only see black. I immediately fell to the ground, my breathing becoming rapid as the ground swayed viciously below me. My heart raced, I panicked. I had no clue where I was. I could not remember a thing about the life I had before, where I had come from, who my parents were, what the world was like, why I was here.

My breathing slowed as I recovered from the initial shock. I shuffled slowly backwards until I ran into a wall, and realised that I must be in some sort of box. I curled my self into a ball and decided to wait, because that was the only thing that I could do.

Lily. The thought popped into my head so suddenly that I jumped. My name, I realised. That was the only thing I could remember. The thought comforted me somewhat, gave me a sense of identity and individuality.

The swaying box had not yet stopped, and I had been sitting there for what felt like forever, though judging by my sense of time it had only been half an hour. I wondered when it would end, and the thought filled me with worry. Where was I going?

Suddenly, the box jerked to a stop. I didn't move, but sat in the silence, the sound of my breathing filling my ear drums. I sat for what felt like ages, until I heard a huge noise, like thunder in the sky.

A crack of light in the box blinded me, forcing me to shield my eyes. It grew steadily wider, filling the box with sunshine. Once used to the light, I looked up to see several faces staring back at me. About fifty. All boys.

They immediately broke into chatter, calling and yelling and calling dibs. I blushed and looked down, embarrassed and slightly overwhelmed. Why was I the only girl? Why was I here? Who are these people?

"Would the lot of shanks just shut up!" I heard one voice say. The rest of the boys immediately went quiet. I looked up to see who had saved me from further embarrassment. It was a dark boy, who by the looks of him never cracked a smile. He looked like some sort of authority among the group, a leader. His arms were folded as he looked down at me, and I started to feel a little intimidated.

The boy looked over to somewhere that was out of my range of sight, as if signalling to someone. "Newt," he said.

"On it, Alby," I heard another boy reply in a funny accent. I looked over to see who had replied to the so called "Alby". It was a blonde, athletic looking boy, around the age of 16, a bit younger than Alby. He looked like he might be one of the leaders as well. That must be Newt, I thought.

Newt came over to the edge of the box and looked down into it. He gave me the slightest hint of a smile, and looked back at Alby. "Well, would you look at that. A bloody girl," he said, a hint of humour in his voice.

"Shut up and get her out," Alby replied almost dismissively, as if he wasn't really mad. Newt grinned at him, and proceeded to jump very elegantly down into the box.

He offered me his hand, which I took gratefully, and helped me to stand up. "What's your name, Greenie?" he asked. "Lily," I responded quietly. "Come on then, out you come," Newt said, and pulled me out of the box.

A/N:

Ayeee, new story! I've been thinking about writing this for a while, and have finally decided to be motivated and actually start this story!

And if any of you have suggestions for a better title, then please comment, because I am awful at coming up with names to things XD.

Thanks so much!
