Chapter 3

“Now you have my number! We can go shopping together!” Cole's mom laughed as she hugged me tight.

“Definitely. Just shoot a text!” I gave a wide smile and walked out, Cole right behind me.

“Your mom is so nice, what happened to you?” I joked. He just scowled. The next thing he did was something I never would have expected. He opened the door for me.

“Thank you.” I tried concealing my shocked expression, but im sure my pink cheeks weren't helping.

“No, thank you. You made my mom happier then I ever have and trust me I try.”

“Oh, its nothing really..”

“You underestimate yourself so much you know that?” His voice sounded irritated.

“I'm sorry-”

“Why the fuck are you apologizing?” I flinched as he cursed. I felt my head spin and my eyes blurred, taking me back nine years ago as I heard my fathers voice. I struggled to keep control, gripping my hands on the door handle.

“Erendira i'm, listen i'm sorry I didn't mean that.”

“Its fine.” My voice shook. He pulled the car over and I stared at my lap.

“Erendira.” I kept my eyes on my pants, my hands tightly clasped in my lap.

“Erendira, look at me. Please.” There we go again. His stupid voice! Its so captivating. I lifted my head ever so slowly. In the still of night I focused on his deep grey eyes trying to stay steady. His hands slowly cupped my face and I felt his thumb trace under my cheek, wiping tears I didn't even know were there.

“I am so sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you.”

“Can you just take me home.” I felt scared, confused with my feelings. It scared me to see how he affected me. I didn't want to get hurt, not again. There was so much he didn't know about me.

“Yeah. Sure.” I could feel the regret in his voice just scream at me but I kept my composure. An awkward silence filled the air. I was sitting up straight, my eyes staring through the window. When he pulled into my driveway I wasted no time in jumping out the car and dashed to the front door. I felt the tears run dow my cheeks and prayed it was my mom who opened the door and not Em. I rang the doorbell continuously. When the door opened I saw it was Em. I sprinted up the steps without thinking and ran into my room, locking the door. I ran to my bed and just curled into a ball, letting out sobs. I felt all the images of my dad come back to me, his harsh words. I stared wide-eyed when I noticed my door swing wide open and Em run in. How did he get in? Then a key dropped out of his hands onto the floor. It made the loudest noise in the still of the moment. He stopped in his tracks, taking in my appearance. I turned my head and furiously rubbed at the tears.

“Em! Whats up?” It was worth a try. Nothing. He slowly walked towards the me before kneeling beside the bed.

“Why? Why do you always have to hide in front of me? God I swear if that bast-”

“Em, your language.” I growled. I squeezed my eyes tight. What the hell was up with me today? Why was I so moody?

“Sorry.” He said quickly. “Please, tell me what happened. Why are you crying? It's killing me to see you like this.”

“Em, really its nothing. Im just uhh...” I trailed off looking away. I hated lying like this to him.

“Yeah, go on. Im listening. I'm here.” His grip on my hand tightened.

“I'm just you know...PMing.”

“OH. Oh right, okay, um yeah well. Do you need anything? I'll bring some-” He looked at me unsure weather to believe me or not.
