THE STORY OF JAMES POTTER: Part 1
CHAPTER 1 – HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
James Potter awoke early on August twenty-first and ran out to get the post. He’d gone out early every day for the past week, checking the mail before anyone else could. He could hardly wait till it got there. He’d been waiting his whole life for what was supposed to come. What he hoped to get.
It was clear to his parents that he would be utterly disappointed if the letter didn’t come. They knew that their son, barely eleven years old, would be heart broken if he didn’t receive the letter he’d been waiting for.
Opening the door, James ran out and waited. He could see the mailman at the end of the lane, and he would be arriving at his house shortly. Until then, he waited, thinking about his letter. It would be from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the school he longed to attend. His parents, Robert and Penelope Potter had both attended when they were younger. They had been in most of the same classes since they were eleven and fell in love during their sixth year. It was a beautiful story.
“Mr. Potter,” the mailman said politely before handing James the small stack of letters. “Have a nice day.”
“Yeah,” James said, sifting through the mail, “you too.”
There were five letters in the morning’s mail. There were two bills, which James place on the kitchen table, the Daily Prophet, a newspaper from the wizarding world, a letter from James’ Aunt Harriet, and a small envelope with a purple seal on the back that had a picture of a badger, a snake, and eagle, and a lion on it. James knew at an instant what this was. It was the letter he had been waiting for. The letter that would tell him weather or not he would be attending Hogwarts.
Slowly, as if it was his most prized possession – which at the moment, it was – he peeled off the small seal and took out the old piece of parchment. It read:
