Authors note: this is my first fanfiction so be nice ;)
This is Berk. It's twelve days north of Hopeless, and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It's located solidly on the Meridian of Misery. My village. In a word - sturdy, and its been here for seven generations, but every single building is new. We have fishing, hunting and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems are the pests. While most places have rodents, or mosquitos, we have dragons, like all pest they are persistent and never seem to go away. But to be fair when you are a giant fire breathing lizard what will when you want something no one can stop you. The rational idea is to leave. However we are Vikings we are stubborn, smelly and for fun we drink ourselves into a stupor.
My name is Hiccup, I am an oddball in the Viking world, I'm scrawny, don't smell and intelligent. Lets just say I don't fit in, I have emerald green eyes, a spatter of freckles and brown hair. Since my mother was taken in a dragon raid, my father became distant and cold, to make matters worse my father is, none other than the chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe Stoick the Vast, so pretty much the entire village hates me, earning me the nickname "Stoicks little disappointment".
I am always alone, a runt, with only my notebook and sarcasm to help me, my life isn't fantastic as I'm always being beaten and bullied. But life can only get better can't it?
Hiccups POV:
As I hauled myself out of bed I couldn't help groaning, the bruises of yesterdays beating from the usual tormentors, Snotlout Jorgesen my cousin, your stereotypical Viking, all brawn no brain, and as violent as Monstrous Nightmare. Then there is the Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, the only difference between these twins is that Ruffnut is a girl, other that that they are both extremely dumb and violent, with a slightly sadistic vibe about them.
A I tenderly pulled my green shirt over my head, slipping into my fur boots, grabbing my notebook and dagger before heading downstairs. Noticing a plate of chicken and bread on the table, realising my dad was not home, I couldn't help but relax, because he would either still asleep or out around the village helping with repairs.
Deciding to head down to the forge I stuck my fur waistcoat on and grabbed the bread from the table, opening the door I couldn't help but squint as the light started streaming in, as I walked down the patch of grass leading down from my house I could help shrinking as I felt the stares of loathing coming of the passing villagers whilst some muttered the usual;
"Look at the runt, he will never be the chief of this tribe" or
"Snotlout would be a better chief"
"How can someone that scrawny lead us into battle?"
By now I'm used by now, I'm just grateful that most villagers only gossip, and don't physically beat me like the teens do.
Drawing closer to the forge I could help but smile as I heard my mentor singing in his of beat tune,
"Oh I got my axe, and I got my mace, and I got my wife with an ugly face, I am Viking true and through."
"Good to know he's in a good mood" I muttered as I approached the forge.
You see my mentor happens to be my fathers best friend, his name is Gobber he is a burly, pudgy man with a bushy blonde moustache, his right leg is a wooden stump ,and his left forearm from just below the elbow is replaced with an interchangeable block, to me he is a fatherly figure and is one of the only people not to insult me, I have been his apprentice since I was little.
"Come on lad, stop your daydreaming and get in hear, these cart axels wont make themselves" He yelled
Snapping out of my trance I ran in the forge, replacing my furs for a leather apron, as I hammered away at smouldering iron pole,
"So what's new Hiccup?" Gobber questioned
Damn does he know about my bruises, I cant tell him the other teens have been beating me, I already look weak enough.
"There is no point trying to hide anything from me hiccup, I know you are being beaten by the other teens"
I put the hammer and turned to face Gobber, "What shall I do " I questioned
"Personally I would of just shown them not to mess with me by beating them into the ground" he replied
"However in your case, I would just take what the dish out, your a smart lad, be patient and just wait for the right moment to strike. "
I stared at him for a couple of minutes, before someone near us coughed, our head snapped around to see a pretty blonde standing at the counter;
"Astrid, what can do for you lass " Gobber said.
I phased out ignoring their conversation, how much did she hear, will she tell the other teens about what Gobber said, with all these thoughts buzzing through my head I didn't realise Gobber was calling me,
"HICCUP" Gobber yelled.
"Yeah" I stuttered
"Sharpen Astrids axe, whilst I take these wagons to Bucket and Mulch at the docks, And try not to burn down the forge "
"You got it Gobber" I replied, taking the axe from Gobber.
"And don't stay to long, I don't want you in the forge if the dragons attack" He yelled
As I quickly glanced at Astrid I realised she had a faint blush on her face, no she can't have she's Hofferson, the strongest fighter out of all the teens, what would she want with a twig like me.
"So I'll come and get my axe tomorrow" she muttered
"Erm sure" I stuttered back.
She flushed red, turning her back saying "see yah" as she ran of.
"Well that was weird" I Muttered taking the axe to the grinding wheel as the sun started to gradually set.
Astrid POV:
Gods he's cute when he stutters she thought as she ran home, with the pink sky setting behind her.
As she walked up the stairs to her room, she couldn't help but wonder why she lets the others bully him,
"I will have to talk to Fishlegs about it, since they used to be close." she muttered before falling asleep.
So guys comments are welcome I will try to upload chapter 2 tomorrow night, I'm thinking it might be about the raid where hiccup shoots down toothless, still not sure however.
