I let out a long sigh as I reached the tower, sat on the couch, and turned on the TV. The screen filled with the blue and silver police logo.
"Attention citizens, do not panic. This is an emergency broadcast regarding the recent increase in mental attacks. It is advised that all citizens stay inside and refuse to take any messages. This issue will be resolved soon...... Attention citizens, do not panic. This is an..." I turned off the TV and frowned. The mental attacks must have been worse than I originally thought.
"It's been saying the same thing for years. The police probably fell a long time ago," said a voice behind me. I whipped my head around and saw Truth standing in the doorway.
"Hi Truth," I laughed nervously, "What are you saying? I've never seen this broadcast before."
"Yes you have. The last time you watched real TV was three years ago."
"Seriously, Truth. This isn't funny. I watched TV on February 7th, 2135 and today is February 8th, 2135. I watched 'real' TV just yesterday."
"Today's date is November 16th, 2138. Just ask the Computer." This really isn't funny anymore. It can't be November 16th, 2138.
"Computer, please verify the date for me." This isn't funny.
"I'm sorry Jane, but you told me never to tell you the date." This isn't funny.
"When did I do that?" This isn't funny.
"The day you locked Truth up." THIS ISN'T FUNNY.
"See? Where do you think the snake memory went?" Truth accused.
"What snake memory?" I blurted.
"Don't you remember? You touched a snake on a 2nd grade field trip. But it wasn't in the box."
"A organizational mistake. It has to be."
"You used it on the first dragon. You've made hundreds of dragons, trying to forget."
"Forget what?"
"The end. The fall of the world; all the death and pain it brought. The computer didn't remember Sally, because Sally never came. Sally broke, just like they all did."
"Shut up."
"You're the last person left, or close to it. The mental attacks destroyed the rest."
"SHUT UP."
"Look outside Jane. You'll see." NO! I rammed Truth through the window, shattering the glass. I watched as Truth fell down, down down. Down to the husk of the world below. A world encased by the screaming and the pain, everyone's pain. I hoped Truth enjoys rotting in the world she so desperately wanted me to see. I teared my eyes away and left the room calling out to Computer.
"This room is now off limits. Seal all windows and doors. And get me a snake skin from The Library. I have a dragon to make by tomorrow, that's the deadline. Sally has a birthday party to attend to, and I'm not gonna let her down."
This is the last chapter. I know its short, but I prefer writing short stories over longer ones. Please tell me what you think.
