1. Callan

Emory wears way to much mascara. She doesn't wear a lot of other types of make up, but boy does she pile on that mascara. She will look so cute in a short pink skater skirt and a matching top, but the mascara is so distracting and takes away from her beauty. Its thick and clumpy and and makes her lashes look like spider legs.

I've told her so so many times that she should chill with the mascara, but she just roles her eyes and says in her nasally white-girl voice, "Callan, you don't know anything about makeup." Which of course is wrong, but she doesn't know that.

I spend the majority of Emory and I's relationship wondering why I am torturing my self. She is whiny and clingy and cries over everything. But then there's those nights when we are together doing our thing and shes not whining or clinging or crying. Instead she is kissing me (and a little bit of other stuff) and then I remember, Ahhhhh! This is why!

Marti says that I'm using her, but I'm not. If anything, Emory is using me for my money and popularity. I hadn't even asked her to go out with me, she asked me. I only said yes because I was sick of being called gay all the time. Plus who wouldn't want to walk around The Academy with a hot girl under your arm. And I'm not (gay that is). I'm just "artistic" as my mom likes to say when shes defending me to my step dad.

"He's wearing eyeliner honey!" he says. I rarely hear my stepdad call my mom by her real name. Even when they are fighting it's only honey honey honey.

"He's being artistic El!" My mom doesn't call my step dad any sweet couple-ly names. She calls him El, which is still a nickname because it's short for Elias.

Then El gives me a disappointed look and mumbles under his breath before leaving the room to go get a glass of orange juice. He drinks so much orange juice. That's the only thing we argue about other than wearing eyeliner: his orange juice intake.

Other than that, El and I are cool. He buys me a lot of stuff and keeps my mom happy. Alot of times he will defend me if my mom is upset, which is really helpful because when my mom is mad, she is really mad.

She has a ridiculously short fuse. We could all be having a pleasant evening, and then I'll say something to be funny or sarcastic and she will get angry and start yelling at me. Then El will rub her shoulders and say, "Honey, he was just joking around." He's helpful like that. Plus he's a neurosurgeon so he brings home the dough. Emory gets a significant portion of this dough (so do Marti, Russel, and Astrid, but it only bothers me when Emory does it.)

Emory hates when I wear eyeliner, not because it's girly or anything, but because she thinks it makes me look like I'm trying to hard to be punk rockerish. Then I tell her that she asked me out while I was wearing it so she obviously liked it. Then she told me it was something she was hoping to change once we got together....

But I think eyeliner makes me look more intense and more intimidating. My skin looks like a tortilla minus the spots. It' s actually really clear, because I take care of it, but its also so bland and boring. My light blue eyes are unnoticeable and fade into my face while my light brown hair makes me look even more plain. Without eye liner, I look like a boring and plain teenage white boy that wouldn't stand out in any way.

Marti likes it. She didn't at first but I guess she got used to it. Russel hates it and Astrid is indifferent. She just doesn't care, which is her mood on alot of things besides my use of eye makeup. I think when Emory says I don't know anything about make up, she's taking a stab at my eye liner. But she can shut the hell up because my mom's a beautician and I know way more about makeup than whatever YouTube tutorial she watched as inspiration for her horrible spider legged eyeliner.
