15 year old Thomas and Beth were having a perfectly ordinary ride home until their train stopped at a station that didn't even exist...
Everyone around them was whispering to each other so the sound built up to a crescendo of uncertainties. Their hearts pounding like the beat of a drum they froze in terror, almost as if they were stone. All the pair could do was stand still. A shiver went up their spines, almost a premonition of what was to come. Trying to regain their senses after a shock still couple of seconds ,that felt like a couple of hours to them, they wobbled over to the window to scout what was happening. They could see their frightened reflections looking back at them. Beth's once stylish quiff and ponytail had come loose and was covering her face. Her hazel eyes partially hidden behind the veil of hair. Thomas' sleek black hair, as always, looked perfect. It was hanging loosely but allowed his striking blue eyes, now filled with fear, to be seen, and admired by many.
Suddenly, a pale white face appeared on the opposite side of the glass window. Their hearts ,that had finally kept a normal beat per minute, had shot of again. Almost like the wings of a butterfly trying to get out of a cage. They leapt back and was met with silence. Not the shocked kind of silence but a silence that meant the absence of people. The rest of the trains passengers had disappeared. Beth knew that London underground was unreliable at best but this was ridiculous! Thomas and Beth were completely alone on the train with an unknown being on the other side. The pair looked around the carriage and noticed more of the pale faces on he outside of the train. More and more faces had started to peer in, stares aimed at Thomas and Beth. Some seemed openly curious when staring at the duo and Thomas wondered what that was about. Unfortunately, the paled faced demons who didn't look at them with curiosity looked at them with the same look that a lion looks a deer. A look of predator and prey.
“SMASH!” The glass from one of the trains windows showered down. A glowing red eye of a pale face reflected into a dozen tiny little fragments. Other windows were being smashed while others of the unknown poured through the already smashed windows. Soon the whole carriage was filled with the pale faces and Thomas and Beth were crowded into the corner without actually being touched by any one of them. Beth wondered how they would feel. Hard and cold or warm and soft like humans. Somehow Beth and Thomas already knew that they were not human. Slowly the sea of pale faces parted to form an aisle. Out of no where a pale face appeared a breadth away from them. Glowing red eyes were the only thing that could be seen from the shadows of his lank black hair. He was HUGE, double the height of Thomas and triple the height of Beth. A large shadow that loomed over them. The stream of pale faces entering the train slowed until a female pale face strode up to them. She was built like a Amazonian warrior: Tall and stocky but at the same time elegant and graceful. She wore a black vest top with a sword sheath on her back and a knee high skirt that flowed like a smudge of black ink around her. Even her bare feet looked ethereal. The bells on her bangles chimed together to give the tension filled scene a sound track of its own. She examined them very carefully, from head to toe and lingered on Thomas' face a little longer than what was necessary. There was a moment of silence. They felt a quick lance of pain through their heads, then Thomas and Beth's heads hit the train floor with a dull thump as they fell, unconscious.
A pale faced women cradling and small toddler who had a frightened look on his face. The women was clearly the child’s mother but why did the little boy look so terrified?
Thomas had only ever knew his foster parents he was told he was abandoned as a baby, he had not questioned his foster parents further.
