I woke up on a damp floor, my shoulder burning like fire. The searing pain coursing through my
muscles. I sat up slowly, not to damage anything.
“Jesse?” I heard Willow’s voice from somewhere in front of me. When I finally came to, I saw
she was leaning over me, a worried look across her face.
“Willow,” I sighed in relief. “What’s going on?”
“None of us even know,” Charlotte May was pacing, biting her nails. “They have Xach and Kurt
right now, questioning them or something. I don’t know.”
Just then, doors opened on the right wall. A man in his late thirties came out. He looked casually
professional, with a shirt tucked into his jeans and circular glasses. Kurt and Xach were not with him.
“Jesse?” He said. Now he didn’t sound like he was just calling a name out. He sounded questionable and
shocked.
I shakily stood up. “That’s uh, me.” I said, I glanced at Willow who was chewing at her lip,
watching the man.
He cleared his throat and motioned me to walk with him. I looked at Willow again.
“Don’t go…” She looked at me.
“He has too,” The man sighed, tired. “You all have to. He’ll be back, Willow James.”
She nodded and looked down.
I started walking with the man, through bright white hallways that looked like a school hallway
with a bit of hospital flare. “Where am I?”
“I suppose the way we collected you was quite drastic. I didn’t know anyone would be harmed, I
apologize for that. I’m Dr. Caige.” He looked at me, waiting for my reaction.
And my reaction was astounded. Weirded out, shocked, skeptic. “Caige? Like my last name,
Caige?”
He nodded, sighing again. “While I am not your father, I’m your uncle. Sorry to disappoint.” He
looked at me. “But, you will meet your father soon. We have to find him first.”
“How do you lose a grown man?” I snapped.
“He was taken, fool.” He shot back. “Which brings all of you into the situation.”
“I don’t want to be a part of whatever you guys are doing. My mom is probably worrying her ass
off right now.”
He chuckled.
“Why are you laughing?”
“Because your mom knows about all of this. She was warned about this seventeen years ago,
when you were born. When your sister Natalie was born she made us vow never to involve her in this
either.”
“What is this anyways?”
“Well. Your father kept very important information. People wanted it, they took him.”
“What was the information?”
“It’s very complex”
“What was it, uncle.” I growled.
“Immortality based information.”
I laughed. “That’s ridiculous, stop screwing with me.”
But his face was serious. “This is not a joke, Jesse.”
I sighed. “Why do you need my help.”
“You’re smart, and your friends are too. This group was made long before it happened. You all
are so different yet so alike. And when you work together, it’ll be so powerful and great. You all will be
trained, together and apart for this. We will find your father, you’ll live happily ever after with your full
family. Your friends will be fine and taken care of, no further harm will be done to them.”
“And where are my friends right now?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
They’re a little farther ahead than you and Willow, getting clothes, being explained the situation.
Willow was supposed to go with them, but refused to go with them because she was worried about you. Is
she your girlfriend or something?”
I wish. I thought, sighing. “No, just friends. We’re hanging out Valentine’s Day but that’s it.” I
looked around at the clean hallway. “Where are we going?”
He opened a door and let me in first. The room was dimmed and was bare of furniture and
decorations. “We have to talk.”
