The bell rang, and screaming could be heard all through the school. The final bell until fall.
Olive Peters wasn't excited. She had more of an extroverted personality, but only to the point to talk to people in real life who were her friends. Occasionally some online friends who she met through her Instagram.
So even though summer was fun, she lived quite far away from the school, thanks to her transfer. So she couldn't see her friends.
Olive grabbed her bag, hugged her favorite teacher (which just so happened to be her current class) and walked to the park.
The park she used to go to was across the street from her school, but then.... well, never mind.
This park was far away. Like an hour long walk, 25 minute drive, 30 minute bike. She always walked even though she had a bike, because she loved looking at all of the trees and vines on her way.
The reason she liked this park was all of the flowers. It was more of a garden, but the sign still said park. It had been open since 1957, but the new owners turned it into hippie heaven.
When she arrived, she walked around to see all of the flowers. Even though she went every day after school, she would always find something else beautiful the next day.
When she was done looking around and taking pictures, she sat at her favorite white bench with a white, rose covered arch over it. It was time for her to relax a little bit.
Olive got out her brown faux moleskin journal and wrote down her entry for today.
"June 1st. Today Michael threw a blueberry at me and then I ate it. Fun stuff am I right. Persy kissed my cheek on a dare and it was really funny. I love my friends. I can't really go out of my comfort zone without having a panic attack, but when I'm with my friends, the world stands still."
She continued to draw on the next page, with a girl wearing a flower crown smiling. She sighed. The only thing keeping her from being happy was the fact that no one could love her, and her mom.
She was the girl from a broken home who had anxiety. The girl who got in a fight at the park because she kissed her ex-boyfriend who she found out in that moment, was cheating on her.
She closed her journal and fought back the tears. Fuck, she thought, there goes another anti-depressant that 'should work'.
She walked back home, a 40 minute walk. At least when she had her ex, he would drive her.
On the way there, a girl who looked about her age asked, "Hey, you look like you need a ride. Care to hop along?"
Olive was hesitant, but climbed into the red jeep. The girl seemed sweet, so she wasn't scared, but she still was anxious.
"I'm Ryan. Kinda boyish name, kinda boyish girl. What's your name?"
Olive kept quiet for a minute, and then quickly spoke out, "I'm Olive, I have anxiety and I'm sorry if I seem weird because of it."
"Hey, it's okay. Don't worry, I get it. I take meds for my anxiety and I have bipolar disorder. This is a safe place." Ryan rasped out. Her voice was like a crackling fire, low and hollow.
"I-I'm sorry. I get anxious around new people, and my fucking anti depressants aren't working. Anyways, can we turn on some music?" Olive stuttered out. She only stuttered around new people.
"Of course. Do you like Twenty One Pilots?"
"Hell yeah! That just made me so much more comfortable in this situation. What else do you listen to?" Olive practically yelled out. Twenty One Pilots was always an icebreaker.
"I like Melanie Martinez, Fall Out Boy, Childish Gambino, that stuff. I'm kind of all over the place."
Olive smiled the cheesiest smile ever, and probably the first smile in a while. She didn't even smile when Michael, her actual best friend, threw blueberries at her at lunch.
"Let's take the long route then" Olive gleamed. This was the only time she was glad her mom was a drunk. More time with mystery girl.
(sorry for the short chapter, just had to get something out! I'm so excited to write this story :) -love, Lia xx)
