Brief recap of Scarhead:
jk, just read it XD.
---------------------
Hundreds of people entered the cafe that day. Hundreds of people with their own stories, their own pain, their own happiness. People of all different ages, heights, weights, ethnicity, some people came alone, others in larger groups. But one thing was for certain, none of the hundreds of people seemed to notice the boy with the lightning bolt scar on his forehead, clearing the deserted tables.
It wasn't that he wasn't noticeable, it was just that people were to busy with their own lives, their own problems, their own successes. They didn't care or know anything about the boy. They were completely unaware of what he had done and what he had been through, the lives that he had lost.
There was only one person in the whole facility that noticed him, and that was the boy by the sink in the kitchen with pale blond hair. He noticed him, every move he made, every facial expression he pulled. He couldn't help but think that he was suffering. Well, of course, he was suffering, he had just been through a war. But was there something that he wasn't telling him?
The two boys lived in a flat above the cafe. One bedroom, one bathroom, and a kitchen area. It was small but it was all they could afford with the wages from the cafe.
Draco Malfoy, the boy who probably hadn't ever done any manual labour in his whole life, was having the hardest time adjusting to this new life. Harry had grown with muggles like these. But for Draco, it was all foreign.
Harry struggled under the weight of the bucket of dishes he had cleared as he walked it over to the sink where Draco stood. He put in on the counter beside him, Taking deep breaths. He had lost a lot of his strength since they had left, mostly due to the fact that he barely ate anything. Not that there was a lot of food to eat.
"How do the muggles cope with doing stuff like this?" Draco asked putting the bucket of plates into the sink. He ran the hot water over them before putting them off to the side, ready to be used again. "Without magic I mean. This is hard and it takes forever."
"Of course you would think that. You've never worked a day of your life." Harry said back. "get used to it, prat."
"I'm trying," Draco whined. Harry picked the empty bucket up and rested it on his hip.
"See you after my shift, Draco"
The day slowly grew to a close as fewer and fewer people came through the door in the cafe. Harry finished clearing all the table and assisted Draco in the washing up, who was going so slow it was hard to believe how he had gotten any work done at all. The other workers soon left and the two of them were alone, standing side by side in front of the sink. They worked in silence, listening only to the clanging of the glass plates against each other.
"Meet you back in the room, I've got to lock up," Harry said, leaving Draco with the last few dishes. He placed a kiss on his lips and left him there. It had not been an easy change. He missed Ron, Hermione and the rest of the Weasleys. They were the only ones who knew where Harry was. Everyone else of the English wizards had no idea and were still searching rapidly for the boy. He would never tell Draco, but he was beginning to regret coming all of this way, leaving his life behind, and living with muggles. Sure he was glad he was with Draco and finally had the time to do stuff with him that he did not have time to do before, but he wished he could pursue his career as an Auror.
He felt as if he had acted too quickly like he had made the decision to leave the country in the heat of the moment and that he should still be mad about what Draco had done.
He heard Draco's footsteps go up the stairs to the top floor. Harry turned the key in the lock and followed him. It wasn't the nicest of places, but at least it was somewhere. They didn't have the friendliest of neighbors either. Most were drug dealers or prostitutes. Some were both. But the worst of these was the lady who lived with her two sons in the flat next to theirs. Whenever she saw the two of them together, she would spit at them, turn her kids away from them and tell them they were a disgrace to humankind. It was starting to get more annoying than anything else that Harry hated about the place where they lived.
Harry pushed open the door to their flat, which made a low pitched screeching noise. Draco, who sat on the couch that doubled as a pull-out bed, jumped at the noise but relaxed once he had come into view. Harry collapsed next to him and put his head on Draco's lap.
"What's wrong?" Draco asked playing with Harry's hair.
Harry hesitated, "I'm just tired, I guess. It's been a really long day. A really long week for that matter. How long have we been here?"
"It's almost been a month. And I agree, it has felt awfully long. I must say Muggles seem to be getting along just fine without the use of magic, I always used to wonder how they did it, they don't seem to be doing too terribly. It's odd, I always viewed them as weak and unable to take care of themselves. But they've compensated with stuff like that." he pointed towards the microwave that was positioned on the kitchen counter.
"The microwave." Harry corrected.
"Right, that." Draco pulled Harry's hair up so that he looked at him. Draco brought his lips down to Harry's and held him there. Savouring Harry's smell." You're beautiful." he said once they pulled away.
"I know, Draco."
Draco laughed, "don't get cocky with me, that's my thing."
"Then what's my thing?"
"How about, being annoying?"
"Whatever." there was a pause which Draco took as another opportunity to kiss him firmly. "Draco? Do you ever miss our home back in the UK?"
Draco stroked the boy's hair once more, "no. and it's not just because it no longer exists....well okay, maybe it is. But you know what I do kind of miss? My mother in Siberia. That place was a living hell but it wasn't so much the place as much as the people there. We were all kind of in the same situation. We were all there to escape Voldemort which I think really drew me towards them. After the war, most of them left though. My mother was one of the few people who stayed, to you know, stay away from the ministry. There was this other guy, Forseti, his son brought us new before Umbridge sentenced him to death for treason. He stayed with my mother. I would go back to be with her. What about you, do you miss the UK?"
"Of course, I haven't heard from Ron or Hermione since I left and It's kind of worrying. Do you think they feel a little betrayed by my decision to come along with you? I could see Ron being mad, not so much Hermione. What do you think everyone thinks about my disappearance?"
"It's impossible to tell, lots of things could have happened back there, and we would never know. And I can't believe I am saying this, but It actually feels kind of good. To get away from the commotion of the wizarding world."
Harry felt the exact opposite. He missed the wizarding world desperately. He missed treacle tarts and Quidditch and Hogwarts. Everything that made the wizarding world special to him. He didn't say anything back to though. He just nodded his head and made it seem that he felt the same way as he did.
Maybe leaving wasn't the best decision.
