Girl's POV: (her name is Caitlyn)
I lunged for Josh's neck and dug my fingernails into his chest as I toppled him over. I grabbed his gun which he was struggling to hang on to desperately. My fingers were just closing around Josh's throat when a huge force yanked me backwards. I flew through the air and landed on my back. I felt like I could barely breath.
I looked up to see that the man was standing over my body, a cruel smirk twisting his features.
"Now, you listen to me, girl! You will do exactly as I say, exactly when I say it. Do you understand?" he screamed harshly in my face. To reply I merely gathered all my courage and spat right into his eyes.
He reared back in disgust and raised a hand to slap me.
"No, Buck, wait!" cried Josh, frantically running over to us.
"You're actually defending it?" shouted Buck in his face.
"Well you can't strike a female. It just isn't right.." Josh trailed off his eyes flickering around.
Buck seemed to make a quick decision at that moment. Something in his eyes changed and his face softened a tiny bit.
"You're right, I'm sorry, I don't know what I was thinking..it just got me so mad when it spit in my face like that," Buck said rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Oh, yeah. Ok...and she is a she, not an it," said Josh sounding surprised that he had actually listened.
"Yes..she made me mad," Buck said through gritted teeth putting emphasis on the word "she".
Josh stood up and smiled genuinely. He turned his back for just a second and there was a loud slapping noise, followed by my face landing in a pile of a muddy snow mixture. I saw stars behind my eyelids.
Only when I opened my eyes and saw Buck's still raised hand, I connected the dots. Buck had slapped me and he slapped me hard. That whole little speech about him being wrong was a stupid setup which Josh was dumb enough to believe..and so was I.
My hand immediately went to my cheek as my mind willed the throbbing pain in my face to stop.
Before I knew what was happening Buck was on the ground and Josh was on top of him. Josh was strong, but Buck was stronger. Soon enough Buck had flipped over so that he was now on top of Josh. Buck was throwing punches mercilessly and Josh's only feeble attempt to block them was by raising his hands weakly in front of his face.
Josh looked like he was going to pass out soon from the number of direct hits to the head. I had no idea why Josh had saved me. Why would he do that, especially after I had attacked him? Why would he risk getting beat up very badly just for me, some random girl that he met a half hour ago in the middle of the woods?
I was very alarmed at the situation before me. All I could think about was how I needed to help Josh since he helped me. But how?

Josh's POV:
Punch after punch after punch. I felt my jaw throbbing and my whole face swelling up. I tried to defend myself by raising up my hands but Buck was just too strong for me.
Why was I helping this girl anyway? There was no reason for me to get beat up for her. Buck just made me so angry when he lies to me straight up like that and then slapped her the second I turned my back. I guess I sort of snapped.
I felt myself starting to become more and more distant, going further and further away. I tried to will myself to hang on to not let the blackness take over, but I was slowly failing and with each punch I became weaker and weaker and I stopped fighting a little bit more.
I could taste the coppery blood pouring into my mouth and dripping down my face. I knew I was in bad shape, and I knew that if Buck was planning on killing me then he would.
Right when I was about to give up the punches finally stopped leaving me trying to regain complete consciousness. I opened my watery eyes and saw that Buck was no longer on top of me. I ignored all the pain I felt everywhere and simply sat up trying to find Buck.
My gaze landed on the most unlikely sight. In the grass Buck and the girl were rolling around and fighting angrily. Surprisingly the girl was almost as strong of a fighter as Buck, but she was still losing. I knew that since she had helped me for some reason I now was entitled to help her again. I did not want to be responsible for the death of Buck or the girl. But something told me that someone was going to die today, whether that was her or him I had no clue.
