Rain pitter pattered outside my window. I shuffled in my sleep, unable to get any sleep from the rain outside. After a while I sighed and sat up, glancing over at my digital clock. 1:27 am. I cringed at the time, and swung my legs over the bed and set them on the floor. I took a deep breath and stood up, lazily dragging my feet towards the bathroom. Clicking on the light I slumped over to the mirror, resting my hands on the edge of the counter. I looked up and saw my messy brown hair covering my eyes. Brushing that aside, I looked at myself; an old t-shirt clung to me, and grey sweatpants that were a bit to big. Sighing again, I turned on the sink and cupped my hands under the water, and splashed it on my face, washing away the grogginess that seemed to cling around me. A glanced back over at my bed, feeling that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep anyway. Instead I sat on my bed and took my laptop out. If I wasn't going to sleep, I might as well surf the web.
I ended up on tumblr, finding late nighters posting things like 'What even is life? like, its basicly a taco, hard to get through, and when you get to the good stuff, it usually crumbled and falls away anyways.' Still, I chuckled at this and continued on. Going around more on the website, before I knew it, an hour went by. Sighing, I figured I better at least try to sleep again. Throwing the covers over my head, I closed my eyes and cleared my head, feeling tired from staring at the screen for so long. I felt myself finally slip into sleep, a muddy darkness clouding my mind, before I was dreaming.
In my dream, I felt lost, but yet this place felt strangely familiar. Trees surrounded me, making it hard to see where I was. Fog covered the ground, covering the dirt path. I heard steps behind me, and I whipped around. It was a person. A boy, in fact. His blonde hair fell over his face, so I couldn't see who he was. He wore a baggy grey sweater that fell a bit below his waist, and his jeans had holes in them, as if he fell and hurt himself.
"Hello?" I asked, curiously. The boy looked up, and his hair fell away from his face, well, al least the lack of one. There were no eyes, nose, mouth, nothing. Just indents as of where those would be. I was scared, but I couldn't move. Voices surrounded me, all warning me of something coming. Something dangerous. Something coming to kill me.
I opened my eyes to face grey sunlight. Sitting up, I wiped off a bit of sweat on my head, and got off my bed. Grabbing some clothes, I thought about my dream. It was just a dream, of course, but it seemed so real. So familiar. I ran the shower, quickly, and then got dressed. I made my way to my small kitchen, grabbing breakfast. While eating, my phone rang. I picked it up, and before I could say anything, they talked first.
"Joey?"
"Cass, what are you doing calling at such a time in the morning?" I asked, while glancing at my kitchen clock. 10:57 am. I guess it wasn't all that early.
Cass was an old friend from high school. We talked sometimes, but not as much as we use to since school ended and I moved out of town.
"Well, something happened...and I figured it better that I call rather than text..." Her soft voice faded out, as if she was afraid to say something.
"What happened?" A asked, a bad feeling growing in my chest.
"It's Leo...I'm visiting him right now, in the waiting room. He seems okay, but he has to stay in the hospital. It's mandatory-" I cut her off "Leos in the hosplity? Why?!"
Leo was an older friend of mine, a grade above me. We were best buds for the longest time. But we haven't talked for at least a month... He doesn't have any sickness that I could remember, and he hasn't said anything...
"Well, he was in an accident of some kind. It looks like hit and run, but they won't tell me anything..." Cass's voice faded out again. She tends to do that.
"I'm coming." I said, already standing up to go pack.
"No, Joey, you don't have to," She started, but then cut herself off.
"Cass, then why did you call me if you didn't want me to come?" I asked, digging out my small suitcase.
"..." She was silent for a moment, before speaking again. "I'll see you in a few hours." She said, then hung up the phone, leaving a buzz in my ear.
Putting my phone in my pocket, I grabbed clothes and folded them into the case, then going to the bathroom to grab my toiletries. After that I went and packed up my laptop, a moving away present my mother gave me.
Sighing, I put my laptop into my bag and zipped it up. This should be good for a while. A squeaking behind me made me turn my head. Of course, my pet rat Ash... I suppose I could just leave her with the neighbors...but I wouldn't trust them... I guess I will just have to bring her.
Grabbing Ash's cage, I found my old pet travel case in the back of my closet and got it out. I then grabbed a bag of food and her water bottle. Putting Ash into her travel case and put her stuff into my suitcase, I got ready to leave. Taking some snacks as I went out the door, remembering to turn off all the lights and heat, I locked it behind me, leaving a note on the door if anyone needed to know where I was.

In my car on the highway, it was smooth sailing. Ash lay comfortably in shotgun, her little cage blocking out any glaring sunlight. He cage lay open, if it is too claustrophobic for her, yet she smoozed lazily in it, nibbling on her foods. Fixing my eyes on the road, it was surprisingly empty. I couldn't even see any patrol cars. This was strange, but I continued on anyways. Soon, but gastank said it was low on fuel, and I took a turn off for a gas station.
(Lol hey, this is some random story I found stored in my hard drive. It was pretty okay so far, so I thought I'd continue it maybe?)
