He didn't even ask. For once James Potter didn't ask me out. I'm disappointed because, for once, I was going to say yes. Last night after dinner I confessed to Marlene and Alice that I liked James. They decided that I should say yes when he asked me to Hogsmeade tomorrow. We planned my outfit that would provoke him into asking. I got back into the Head's common room and asked James if he would stay with me for the night, to ward off nightmares. He agreed and we slept.

The morning:

I feel James stirring and I yawn. "Lils, you need to let go, I have to go to Quidditch tryouts." He says I frown, I forgot that was this morning. I should go, so he'll ask me.

"You're mean, that means I have to wake up." I am so not a morning person, at first. He laughs and I shove him off the bed.

"Sorry Lils." He says I can tell he means it but I want to tease him.

"No, you're not. Go away, I have to get dressed now that I'm awake." I answer opening my eyes, he smiles.

"Whatever you say, princess." I throw a pillow at him, pretending to be annoyed. Secretly I think the nickname is adorable. He laughs and stands up. He walks out of the room as I stand up. I walk over to my bathroom and get dressed. I apply some makeup and use my want to fix my hair in loose curls. I pin back a curl lightly. I add a thin, silver chain and some white wedges. The wedges are new and new shoes are never comfortable. I walk out into the common room and wait for James. He shows up a few seconds later.

"Hey." He says breathlessly, staring a little bit.

"Hey to you too," I say teasingly, wanting to run my hands through his messy hair. He's wearing a white t-shirt and dark washed jeans. You can see his abs through the shirt and I try not to stare.

He smiles lightly, "Why so dressed up?" He asks, 'I'm glad you noticed,' I think.

"We have a Hogsmeade trip later. I'm going with... people." I try so hard not to say that I'm going with him. The plan is to remind him so he'll ask.

"Oh." Is all he says, though.

I suddenly feel self-conscious. "Do I look awful, James? Just tell me the truth, Ally and Marls will tell me I look great. Sirius will tell me I look hot. Peter won't respond. Remus will be awkward. You'll give me your honest opinion, right?" I feel like I'm rambling but he nods. I feel relieved and I give a quick twirl hoping he'll ask me already.

"Lily, you look amazing." My heart flutters, hoping he'll ask now. "Whoever is going with you is the luckiest person on Earth." He continues. 'You dimwit!' I think, 'Just ask me already! It's you!' I realise he probably won't ask me yet. Well, I have another trick up my sleeve. I smile brightly hoping this will work.

"Great! Thanks, James. Now, are you excited for Quidditch tryouts?" He nods, "Well, that's good. I'll be watching." I watch his eyes widen. "I know I never go but, I want to see at least one before I graduate," I smile and he smiles back. 'Or I just want you to ask me out!'

"Well," He's gonna do it! "down to breakfast or are we cooking?" He asks, I frown because he didn't do it.

"Uh... down to breakfast." I frown all the way down to the Great Hall and excuse myself to talk to Marlene and Alice. My eyes are brimming with tears, they immediately start fussing over me. Asking what's wrong. "Stupid James Potter!" I hiss, they frown. "He didn't ask me. I dressed up, I twirled, I flirted a bit. I reminded him of the trip. He still didn't ask. I told him I was going to watch tryouts. He nodded and asked me whether or not we were coming down to breakfast!" I say angrily, Marlene and Alice exchange glances. "You guys said he still liked me." I whined, "I feel like an idiot."
