Private Chapter #14 after this.

This particular entry to the series is different than most, it’s an MP3, no video only audio.  Once again it’s the professor, speaking.

“I’m tired, I’m just so god-damn tired.”  He sounded partly out of breath and like he had just been running, there was shuffling in the background, the sound of his body moving.  “I haven’t slept in what feels like a week now, they are persistent and every time we think we’ve evaded the damn Caave they come back, more men, more tactical and we have to run. Again.

“I’m just so damn tired, so… damn… tired of it.  I feel there is no use to this, I can’t escape.  There is no place for me anymore.  We’ve traveled across borders across the planet yet they still come.  How the hell do governments let a criminal organization grow so damn big it literally has half the world’s governments in its pocket?

“Everyone I’ve cared for is dead.  My wife, my children, hell they even went after the two kids I wrote recommendations for last year.  Yeah, like a Harvard kid with high hopes and straight A’s would ‘commit suicide’ off the top floor of the science building.  How many more people are worth it? Worth a stupid fucking drug.

“Tommy is dead; they got him the first day.  Jason is dead too.  He got shot in the back trying to get us out of motel yesterday after they found us again.  India, I was foolish to think we’d be safe in India.  There is so much blood and it’s all on me.  I feel now that everyone I ever loved is dead that they will start going after anyone I associated with.  I fear for my collogues, I fear for my neighbors, I fear for my friends.  Anyone I’ve ever known is in danger, in danger and I can’t even say why.

“Making a deal with the Caave was the worst thing I could have possibly done.  Being betrayed, being framed, they don’t care they just want redemption at all costs.  Maloni loved his wife, he loved Laine, and he’d rather watch the world burn than let her supposed murderer roam the world free.  I’m sorry everyone, I have failed you.

“Let this tape be a memoriam of my accomplishments.  Let this tape be a memoriam of my failures.  This tape is my confession, no, my resolution.  I am Professor Alexander Dwartz born October 27th 1971.  I have Master degrees in the Female Antimony and Biochemistry with an emphasis on the Human Body.  And I made a deal with the Caave to produce a biochemical equivalent of male enhancements—except for the female body.

“My research was a complete success, going off without a hitch and duly increasing the drive and duration of a female in the moment.  Unfortunately my last sample was poisoned by an unknown enemy of the Caave. This framed me as the culprit and now the Caave is out to get me.  If you have this tape, if you are hearing my voice then I’m undoubtedly dead.  The men with high powered rifles chasing me through the forest have found me; they’ve gunned me down, and disposed of the body.

“You should know how the Caave works.  You won’t find me, you won’t find my friends, and you won’t even know I existed.  But I did.  But I did exist, I was here, and I did live.  This tape will be given to the closest person not involved in hopes… in a dream… that my voice will somehow be heard by those out there who care, that I will not be forgotten and that people will remember me for what I’ve done.”

There is a moment of pause, a freeze in the tape.  Before the professor speaks again, apparently deciding to keep the recording on, “Who are you?”

“Does it matter?” A voice replied.

“It does.  If you’re the one that’s going to kill me then I deserve to know the name of the person who finally got me.”

“I’m not here to kill.”

“Then why are you here? Why would anyone be out in the middle of the jungle? Out for a stroll?  Oh no, someone this deep running into me—you are here on purpose.”

“I’m here for you Alexander.”

“Why?”

“I can save you; I can take you to a place the Caave will never find you, but on one condition.”

“What’s that?”

“You continue your research, work for my boss.  She’s truly interested in your work. It fascinates her and she wants you to move forward, to experiment… on her.”

“Is this some kind of sick joke?  Look at what happened to my last test subject.  She died. I don’t know who you work for but I’m not interested.  Just let me die before I cause any more harm to this world.  Let the Caave get me, I’m sure they want it. And me vanishing, that only puts you and all your friends in harm’s way.  They are too big to just hide from.  Trust me.  We’re in India here, India! And they still found me.

“You don’t have much of a choice professor.  My boss always gets her way… always.”

“Fuck you…” Shuffling, the professor must have started running, but only a short a while, “No… no… what is this, what are you doing?” A thud, “I—I can’t move.”

“Of course you can’t.  Just hold on, close your eyes, close your eyes and trust me.  They won’t ever find you… no one will… ever…” a chuckle before the recording ended.  Another soul taken by the mysterious green man.
