Doctor Who One Shot

'Amelia, you do understand this "Doctor" isn't real?'

Amelia Pond didn't answer. This was her third psychiatrist and he said exactly the same as the others. The Doctor wasn't real. She knew he was real and anyone who said other wise was wrong.

'Amelia you need to answer me. Do you understand?'

Amelia still did not reply. The psychiatrist sighed. 'Fine. You can go.'

Late that night Amelia crept down the stairs, wearing a navy coat and a red hat, and carrying a large suitcase. She slipped out the front door and into the garden. And there she sat. Waiting for the Doctor like she did every night. But she knew that, like all the other nights, he wouldn't come back tonight. She tried to stay awake but it was useless. She didn't even notice she was doing it, but before she knew it she was lying on the ground asleep.

Further down the garden, a mysterious blue box began materialising. With it came a loud noise, however Amelia did not wake. The box fully materialised and out of it came a man dressed in a tweed jacket, black trousers, a stripy shirt and most noticeably, a bow tie. He made his way over to Amelia and sat down, watching the young girl sleep. He attempted to smile but in his eyes you could see the sadness - he'd just lost something very dear to him.

'Amelia Pond. The Girl Who Waited. I will come back for you you know? I'm only here now because....well...you told me to.' He took a page from his pocket. It was neatly folded but you could see blotches on it from where tears had fallen. 'You'll fight pirates and give hope to the greatest painter who ever lived.' The man fought to hold back tears. 'You'll fall in love with a man who'll wait two thousand years to keep you safe and save a whale in outer space.' One tear managed to escape and landed on the page, which the man put back in his pocket. 'And after all that I couldn't save you.....either of you.' The man paused before getting up. He bent down and lifted Amelia carrying her and the suitcase back up to her bedroom. He placed two books on her bedside locker and then whispered something in her ear before leaving.

The next morning Amelia woke up in her bed. But she hadn't gone to sleep in her bed? Or maybe she never went outside the night before and had just dreamt it. She turned to her bedside locker and saw two books. She could've sworn they weren't there before. She picked them up. One was a book about Romans and the other about some painter.....Van Gogh? She shrugged and left the books back where she found them. However something she had dreamt kept floating about in her mind. She dreamt a man had whispered something into her ear.
