"I had a gut feeling about this" Jane stated and it all happened on a cold foggy night on November 1939 Tuesday. Sat by a fire place with the logs burning in the fire was a women in her mid 30s with a needle and wool beside her, in her chair. As the women stood up and was about to walk to the fireplace to put out the fire but as she was putting out the fire, suddenly there was a big knock at the door she looked over towards the door while the fire was slowly put out. She stood up to go to open the door then one of her children named William went running downstairs to his mum and said whilst out of breath " mum it's a soldier with a letter in his hand". she replied in a worried way "William please can you go back upstairs for a moment.

William went upstairs with a worried look on his face as his mum looked like she could cry with worry as the mother went to open the door as she opened the door the wind blow cold in her face as she tried to speak, the solider said softly "are you Mrs Jane Andrews" Jane suddenly starts to shake with fear and feeling cold and replies" yes i am, who are you". The solider said with a brave face" i am lieutenant Jack Green I have got some bad news for you, yesterday on Monday 15th of November , your husband Thomas Andrews is missing in action and is still missing since yesterday noon at 12pm, i am really sorry".
Jack handed the telegraph to Mrs Andrews with his hand shaking and his face was dripping with sweat and went down the path to open the gate and looked up the window. Where there was a boy named William and girl named Elizabeth looking at him in the window, looking directly at them with a tear in his eye and Jack turn round and left in his army truck down the road.

Inside William and Elizabeth came down as their mother close the door quietly and saw their mother approached their father's old teared chair and sat down with her hands holding on to the telegraph with tears pouring down beside her cheek and The letter finally left her hands whilst putting her hands in front of her eyes. William and Elizabeth hugged their mum more than ever and Jane suddenly said softly "ok come on let's go to bed and we are going to sort this out tomorrow at the war office".

The children went off to bed but William suddenly said " is dad missing mum" and Jane replied with a small smile"I told you we are going to sorted this out with the war office" then Jane with a lantern in her hand and the children went upstairs to bed and Jane blow out the candle in a lantern and put it on her bed side table and off she went to sleep.

Can tonight get any worse?

When everyone was sound of sleep and clocks ticking through out the house, then the air raid went off and Jane jumped out of bed with fear she grabbed the torch beside her bed on the table and ran into William and Elizabeth's room. Jane pulled the covers off Elizabeth and grabbed her hand and then Elizabeth grabbed her suitcase which was pack if an air raid noise came on. Jane and Elizabeth pulled William from the bathroom and Elizabeth told William" quick get your suitcase while mum quickly gets dad's telegraph and a box with dad's things in it".William was very scared and ran into his room and got the suitcase and also hanged on the wall was a photo of his dad and snatched it off the wall with panic.

Jane, Elizabeth and William head downstairs and towards the kitchen when the back door was and William opened the door with terror and shaking.
They are now in the garden heading for the Anderson shelter with the air raid sound and planes coming from the hill and starting to drop bombs, Elizabeth notices the corner of her eye was a cat shaking and cowering in a corner .She was so scared for the cat so she pick the cat and head to the Anderson shelter, Jane said quickly"hurry! quick get in".

They are in the Anderson shelter holding on to each other and Elizabeth holding on to the cat and out of breath.
