Chapter 3

‘Stay calm Kathleen, stay calm.’ I kept telling myself over and over again. He was still watching me. Why was he watching me? Was he a hunter or not? If he was, then he’s not a good one. You don’t stand in front of a vampire’s car looking at them. That was just stupidity. I wiped my face with my hand, not to get anything off it. Just was the normal human thing to do.

He didn’t look to be to tall, about 5''9, I could take him if it was a vampire hunter. I think. I took a deep breath, about to wide down my window when I noticed something on his back. A sword. Great. I was in trouble. I’d never been in a fight with a hunter. The others had, not me. I was always told to run. I’m the weak one in the chain, that’s how everyone sees me.

‘Act as humanly as possible, girl.’ I told myself. Opening my window a little and turned on my ignition. ‘Good.’

I turned my stirring wheel and pulled away from the curb. I kept looking out my mirror to see if he was still watching me. He was. I looked away for a second then back to see he was gone. Fuck. Defiantly a hunter. No human but hunter could do that, because he was no way a vampire. I could tell if he was. He was a hunter, and after me I bet. I looked at my mirror again to see a car coming after me.

‘Great! Just what I fucking needed.’

I turned at the next turn that took me down a deserted road. ‘Fuck, that was a bit stupid.’ If my heart was beating it would be going at double time. I’ll have to get out and fight. I know I will, and there’s no humans around. No one at all.

I started to slow down my car. ‘Fuck, I can’t do this…’ but then my car stopped and so did the one behind me. ‘Shit, what do I do?’ I asked myself as I got out my car. Looking towards him, he was already out his car and sword in hand.

“Is there a problem here?” I asked him, trying to keep my voice calm and nature. I couldn’t see his face, I couldn’t really see anything of him, which was strange. He wore dark clothing, a hat which shadowed his face from me.

“Yes there is. You bloodsucker.” and that’s when he came at me.

I tried to move out of the way of him, diving into a forward role to get away from the sword. I landed back on my feet and hit the sword out of his hands with my foot. It went flying across the road and onto the ground. I looked towards it for a moment and he through a punch at me. I ducked and swiped him to the ground. He looked up at me.

“I don’t like being called names. Only by my name…” I spat at him and he was on his feet again. Throwing another punch at me.

“And I don’t like you blood-leaches. But I have to put up with you…” he spat back at me with venom in his voice. He dived towards his sword but I was there before him. I tried to pick it up, but it burned my hand and I dropped it. Taking a step back to hold me hand. Pain ran through it, burning.

“What the fuck?”

He then grabbed his sword and held it towards me. “I thought every bloodsucker knew they couldn’t touch a hunter weapon. Guess you must be a newbie.”

“I am no newbie…” I clenched my teeth together, holding back my growl.

“Oh yeah…?” he swung the weapon at me that I couldn’t touch and I moved well away from him. Moving faster than he could.

“Yeah…” I jumped onto my car and looked down at him.

He looked up at me. “If that is so, then you won’t mind me…” he swung at my feet and I jumped out of the way. “… asking for your age…”

I kicked at his hand and the sword went flying again, so I kicked at his chest till he fell backwards towards the ground with a thud. Jumping off the car, I placed my foot on his chest to hold him down and I lent down towards him. That when I saw his face. ‘He’s about my age’ I thought to myself. I couldn’t really see his hair, but it looked dark and short, a lovely shade of brown eyes. Perfect lips for a human. If he wasn’t trying to kill me I would say I would date him. You know, if he wasn’t a human to. That would just be weird for a vampire and a human to get together.

“Now that is rood to ask a lady’s age. I thought Hunters all had manors. Well, that’s what I was told. Apart from the kill vampires.”

He grabbed hold of my ankle but I didn’t move. “Fine, tell me your name then.”

“You first hunter.” I pushed down on his chest with my foot and smirked. “Now!”

“Lady’s first…” He smirked back. I could feel him trying to twist my ankle so he could get out, most likely pine me to the floor and kill me. I moved my foot and kicked him in the gut. Hoping he would stay down because I didn’t want to kill him or anyone in that fact.

“Kathleen…” I stepped away from him and headed towards my car.

“Akio…” I heard him whisper. I turned to look at him and he was slowly getting back up.

“You don’t give up do you?” I asked, staying near my car.

“No, never.” He grabbed his sword and used it to hold himself up. “Aren’t you going to kill me?” He asked.

I shook my head and got into me car. “I don’t kill.” I closed the door and drove away. Leave Akio behind me. Never to see him again.
