My life has been turned upside down ever since I was born. You would think I live with my parents but nope, I love in a care home with other children and very old adults, who work here. I've been in other people's care all my life. No one adopts me for more than a month and then I'm back in the care home. This is my life I have to live in.
My name is Amelia Taylor. I have never seen my parents in my fifteen years of my life. My hair is blonde and mostly curly, my eyes are what I love the most as they are the perfect shade of blue. I have my best friend with me all the time. I also have her boyfriend, Joe, and his best friend, Jack. I met Shakirah, my best friend, in my first year of secondary as well as Jack but I met Joe in primary school.
I started to walk down the streets of Colchester and went to the same shop me and Shakirah meet up. Shakirah only came two minutes late, new record for her, from the time we were supposed to meet at. Me being me I was early as I didn't want to hear so many screaming and moody children. We started to talk about school, homework, so basically anything and everything. Me and her see each other on weekdays, cause of school, and sometimes on the weekends.
When Shakirah had to go, I started to walk back to the foster home. Well..that was until a skateboard, with no one on it, came rolling in front of me. Luckily, I looked down before I went flying on my ass. I squatted down to pick up the board, so I could give it back. I looked around and saw no one looking for it. I then spotted the skate park. It was only a 5 minute walk from where I'm standing. "Um, guys! Is this one of your skateboards?!" I shouted at them. What? They were at the top of the ramps.
"Thank you! You are a life saver!" Some boy with brown hair who looked familiar. He looked about 15 or 16, so the same age as me roughly. "Amelia?" I looked to the ground.
"Um, yeah." I said nervously.
"Look up. It's only me and Jack." That made my head snap up. I came face-to-face with Shakirah's boyfriend, Joe. Him and Shakirah have been going out for 3 years, with hardly any arguments.
"Sorry." I blushed. Urg, I hate when I do that.
Jack and Joe walked me to the home. I gave them both a hug before walking inside. I walk to the desk and sign in, to tell them I came back. I done that once, never sign in, I got hell for it. My career is nice but can be strict when she needs to be. I make it up to the three flights of stairs I have to do to get to my room. I'm so glad I have soundproof walls or I would be hearing screams from the younger ones and slamming doors on the second and third floor.
In the home there is three floors; ground floor that has the playroom and baby rooms, the second floor has 5 to 13 year olds and then the third floor has all the other teens and young adults. It doesn't look like the foster homes you see in movies, with it being in a flat or something. On the outside it has very bright colours. Suddenly, there is a knock on my door that pulls me out of my thoughts. "Come in!" I shout to the person in the other side of the door. Then my career, Miss Richard, pops her head through the gap between the door and the wall.
"You've got visitors." She tells me but sighs, so it means I have people who want to adopt me. I hate this but I've got to do it as I'm here for a reason. Just because my parents don't want me. When I got put in here they apparently said to the owner, Mrs Richard before she passed away, that I have a letter that she gave to me when I was 13. It said;
Dear Amelia,
We know you're not with us, but we have two other kids and a big business to take care of. We did want you. Actually only I, your mother, did as your father thought you would be a disgrace to the family. Your father is a workaholic and very serious with this business. I will get you as soon as I can because I want to see my baby grown up. With the family business and training your siblings to take over, I don't know when it'll be. I'm going to try hard. I don't care how long it takes I want to see my baby girl.
Knowing your father most of my life, he will try and stop me, by making me busy, from coming to get you. Even if it comes between me getting you, you will always be with me. I gave you a heart locket that I put around your neck when you were a baby. Inside is two pictures, the one on the left is me and the other one is a boy but I don't want to tell you who it is in this letter but I will when I meet you someday. I hope you have friends that care for you and maybe even a boy you like or love.
Love you always,
Your mother xx
My hand clasped 'round the necklace. It was still a mystery of who that boy is. I asked every adult who was here when I got given. No one knew. I walked out of the door and followed Miss Richard. She tried to make conversation but I just kept zoning out, so she stopped trying. I just wanna know who this boy is, I thought.
"So who's here?" I finally say. She looked at me nervous written all over her face. I just had a puzzled look, especially when we walked into the meeting room.
