I will always regret what I did that day with Juniperpaw. It was a nice morning, as if fate was playing a joke on me. That was the day that changed my life forever, for the better, or the worse, I do not know.
"Twistedpaw! Let's go!"
"Where are we going?"
"Across the thunderpath, of course. If they won't make us warriors, we'll have to prove that we can be made warriors."
Earlier, our mentors refused to make us warriors, only snotty, arrogant Shrewnose had been made a warrior. It wasn't fair. We all complained. My little sister, Juniperpaw, was always reckless, but I had never imagined she would take it to this level.
"We can't, Juniperpaw. We can't. It would be breaking the rules, and you know it. It would only delay our warrior ceremonies."
I was trying to hide my shock under my calm tone. Juniperpaw was stubborn, reckless, and full of stupid ideas, but she was my sister. I knew she would never back down. I didn't want her to get hurt, no matter how annoying she could be. I tried one more time, even though I knew it would be useless.
" Please, Juniperpaw," I urged," Just this once, please, don't go. Please."
" No, Twistedpaw. I want my warrior ceremony, even if you don't." Juniperpaw replied, eyes sad.
I knew if she went, I would have to go too. I have to protect her, you see.
"Are you sure?" I asked her one last time, eyes guarded.
"Yes, Twistedpaw. I can't let them just ignore us."
I nodded slowly. "Alright. I'll come with you. But only if you promise to cross it and come back straight away, got that?"
Juniperpaw nodded, looking relieved. She grinned.
"Midnight, tomorrow."
