Chapter 2

"Tucker! What happened to you?!" Aunt Liz screams shrilly. It scares me so much that I jump out of bed and run downstairs. Everyone else does too.

"What's wrong, Liz?!" momma asks, panic written all over her face.

"Look at him!" she yells.

"Tucker," Uncle Dally says sternly, "where did you get that?"

Tucker looks down, embarrassed that he's in trouble. You'd think he blows his parents off like what they say isn't important. He listens, but he just doesn't take their words to heart like I do.

"I... Um..." he mumbles.

"Speak up, son."

"I got in a fight," he says.

"With who?"

"Some soc named Bradley Johnson 'cause he said he was gonna kill me for trying to take his girl, and I told him I wanted to see him try. So he did, and he lost."

He looks up at Aunt Liz first, then looks over to his dad who doesn't appear very pleased.

"Harrison, did you know about this?" she asks him.

"I heard a rumor about it, but I didn't know it was gonna really happen," he says shyly.

"Baby," dad says, "did you know?"

I nod.

"Tucker, you're grounded. Stay in your room today. I don't wanna see you come out," Aunt Liz says.

Tucker sighs and marches right back upstairs. She turns to me.

"Baby, I expect you'll make sure he won't leave? You too Harrison."

"Mom, I already told you that I'm going somewhere with Eli and Tyler." She sighs heavily.

"Fine. Just... Don't get in trouble like your brother. I can't take two of you." Harrison nods and goes back upstairs himself. While they talk about Tucker, I go upstairs too.

I immediately walk into his room. He looks at me from his bed. He laughs to himself.

"Some morning, huh?" he asks. I nod and fold my arms across my chest.

"You know what's funnier?"

"What?"

"Looks like I've got babysit you today," I tell him with an arrogant expression.

He curses under his breath. "I'm not a little kid, Baby."

"Aw, poor Tucker thinks he's all grown up," I tease. I decide not to pester him further so I sit on the edge of his bed. I push his hair back and examine his black eye.

"It doesn't hurt," he says with irritation plain in his tone.

"I'm so sure," I reply sarcastically. "I'm glad I left."

"I'm not. I kinda needed you afterwards."

"Well, I'm sorry."

"It's fine, I guess," he says. "I just wanted a friend there."

"What about your guy friends or Addison or Ella or-"

"They haven't lived with me all my their life. Plus, Harrison is scared of everything, but he's a tough man in a fight, that's for sure."

"Do you ever get jealous of him?" I ask.

"Harrison? Why would I be?"

"You get jealous easily."
