Please don't move, I willed the wolf that stood at the edge of the woods behind my house. I stepped out onto the snowy deck in my socks, tights, and tank-top. I had to fight the urge to go back inside.

The wolf's ears flicked in my direction as I made my conscious approach. His white eyes followed as I got closer. My hand lifted as if to touch him; I was almost there.

Then, the look in the wolf's, my wolf's, eyes changed. He looked behind my head. In the time it took for him to look, his eyes became pained. He took off as soon as I reached him. My hand fell as I watched him go.

I turned and ran up the deck and pushed the doors closed behind me.

"Aliza? Is that you, dear." my mother calls from the living room.

"Yeah mom, its me." I sighed.

"Were you messing with those wolves again, Liz?" she asks as she comes in carrying a plate of half eaten food. She dumps it down the drain and turns to me. Her eyes went past me, to the half-closed door. She sighs and looks at me. "What did I tell you, Liz? Dont mess with those beast."

"But mom! It's not just any wolf. It's always the same one." I turned to look out the window. Somewhere out there, my wolf was running away from me.

"Sooner or later, that wolf is going to eat you." She said as she began to walk to the living room. Outside, the sun was dying.

I sighed. "Maybe thats better for both of us."
