Watching her was different each night. I can still smell her.

I run hard, trying to get away. Away from the pain.

My paws kick up snow.

I couldn't remember her name.

(Aliza)

I was sitting at the kitchen table when the wolves began to howl.

I step out onto the snow deck, as I did every night, and stared up at the crescent moon. My wolf joins in after what seems like forever. His howl created the melody of their song, holding it together from the core. I had to fight the urge to charge into the woods.

The howls reached their climax. Their song reached a sorrowful tone as their voices rose above the treetops. I turn my head and close my eyes as their song begins to end.

Turning around, with my eyes still closed, I sank to my knees; this part always got to me; the part where every wolf stop besides mine. He keens a long painful note.

For the first time in six years, I opened my mouth and howled an answer to my wolf.

I didn't realize until after I ran out of breath that he had stopped. I could hear twigs snapping in the distance, getting closer.

I turned around, towards the woods, my breath quickening.

Suddenly, the sound stops; offering nothingness. My eyes slide over the edges of the woods; looking for something that might not be what i want.

There, deep in the shadows of an oak tree, white eyes peered at me. I stepped off the deck, my feet crunching over dry leaves covered in frost and snow. I walk to where he stood, hidden from eyes unmade to see. First thing I saw when I got close enough was blood. Lots of it. On the snow under him, on him, everywhere. I sank to my knees in front of him.

My eyes were glued to the snow, chilling my knees. He whined softly, causing me to look up at him. He gives me a wolfish grin; his tongue hanging from the side of his mouth. I giggle reaching, tentatively, out to him.

His fur was rough on the top but as soft as silk underneath. I then realized that he was jerking around.

"Are you ok?" I asked, not expecting an answer. He slowly shook his head. I gasped. He grinned again. Then, the jerking became violent.

"Oh!" I said, startled. Jumping back, I hopped up and away. Looking back at the wolf, i started to move slowly to the house. I dont know why but i wanted to help him somehow.

He started to follow me until he started jerking again.

I stopped; not knowing what to do. Walking back to him, my eyes never left his. He began to growl when I got too close.

Backing off, I stared at him. Watching him twitch was hard. His shoulders were starting to smoke.

"Ohmigod!! Are you ok?" I asked, my hand reaching out to him.

It looked like his tail was getting smaller. His mussel was shrinking into his face. Skin was appearing from where his fur had retracted into his body. Holding my breath, i watched as he went from human to men.
